Ros came to Narrabri as a young teacher - wondering whether she made the right choice. Fast forward many decades later and Narrabri became the soul of her town, watching her students grow into parents and grandparents.

To them, she’s not just a resident, she’s the familiar smile and their safe place whenever they walked through the school gates. There’s more to Ros than the years she’s lived and students she's teached.

If you see age, you miss the person. Look again.

Celebrating 15 years with Wendy at Whiddon Grafton ♥️

Wendy Richards has been part of our Whiddon Grafton family for 15 wonderful years, and she continues to brighten our home every day. At 87, Wendy is always involved. From daily activities and special events to her afternoon game shows in the lounge with her fellow residents.

She loves her regular library book exchange and is never without her treasured family photo album, which our team members enjoy looking through with her.

We’re so proud of the warm, supportive community at our Grafton home, where long‑term connections like Wendy’s are at the heart of everything we do.

Sam Darke of Grafton lived an incredible life and kept his story close to his heart for many years. Now, he's ready to share it.

As a young RAAF driver, Sam transported scientists into the desert for Australia’s first nuclear test, then held that story in silence for seventy years.

Now, at 93, the world is finally catching up.

There’s more to Sam than anyone could guess at first glance. If you see age, you miss the person.

Music, Food and Love

It’s been a heart‑warming time at Whiddon Easton Park – Taylor House, with residents enjoying a wonderful mix of connection, creativity and meaningful moments. 💛

Residents and their partners came together for a special couples movie session at the Taylor House cinema, sharing a cosy love‑themed film and meaningful time together. 🎬

The Cooking Club fired up the barbie with support from Chef Anand and residents from our Memory Support Home, bringing classic Aussie flavours, great company and a few nostalgic stories to the table. The aromas, music and relaxed atmosphere made it a memorable experience for all. 🔥

Residents have also been discovering the joy of our Resparke program, enjoying favourite 1950s singalong tunes, dancing, and exploring culture – from Egyptian music to armchair travel adventures. 🎶🌏

Lunar New Year at Whiddon 🧧✨

Our Whiddon Mudgee and Easton Park - Sir David Martin homes recently celebrated Lunar New Year with colour, connection and plenty of shared smiles. Residents enjoyed amazing food, took part in fun activities and spent time together celebrating this special occasion.

A fun fact we loved: 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse, and Lunar New Year is celebrated across many Asian cultures and communities worldwide. It’s a great reminder of the wonderful diversity we’re fortunate to have across our Whiddon family.

Happy Lunar New Year to all who celebrate!

Bill spent a career in the shadows, quietly protecting royalty, astronauts and dignitaries on the world stage.

But the role he’s most proud of is simply being Dad and Pop. There’s more to Bill than the years that mark his life.

Holly grew up with little, yet gave everything she had for her family.

From a childhood of hardship where she never learnt to read or write, she found her way into a kitchen filled with warmth where she catered to hundreds of patients daily at Mudgee Hospital.

Holly has held her family together one meal, one moment at a time. There’s more to Holly than the candles on her cake.

If you see age, you miss the person. Look again.

Whiddon Kelso loves showcasing original and unexpected experiences for residents, especially when the ideas come from them.

In January, residents enjoyed a special visit from Pollet’s Martial Arts Centre - an activity suggested by resident Max during the home’s monthly planner meeting. The students delivered an energetic display featuring various Martial Arts.

Their strength, discipline and commitment were impressive, and their respect for older generations was admirable. Residents were wide‑eyed, smiling and thoroughly captivated throughout the performance.

A big thank you to Pollet’s Martial Arts Centre, and to Max for sparking such a memorable experience. 💛🥋

Shirley and Les (97) - 66 years of love and still laughing together ❤️

Shirley and Les McGowan have been married an incredible 66 years and now live side by side at Whiddon Easton Park in Glenfield. They first met at an ice-skating rink more than seven decades ago, and their love has grown into a beautiful family of two sons, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

These days, they communicate in their own unique way. Les has low vision, and Shirley, who is hard of hearing, uses a whiteboard and her wonderfully profound voice. They’re charming, funny and still completely smitten.

As for the secret to a long marriage? Shirley says, “No secret, just cross your fingers.” Les happily adds, “My wife is always right.”

🎥 Enjoy their lovely story featured on Channel 7 The Brightside segment. https://loom.ly/OOOa_Z8

Les can't see his wife, and Shirley can't hear her husband, but nothing could get in the way of this love story. Subscribe and set 🔔 » https://7news.link/YT...

Age is just a number.

And often with age, it forgets to show the courage, love, and stories carried inside as our residents grow older.

For instance, Bill from Mudgee protected some of the most important individuals - presidents, astronauts, dignatries and even members of the Royal Family... Yet his proudest moments were at home.

Ros educated generations with laughter, songs, and kindness. Everyone who knew her and was lucky to be taught by her, still remember their student years as she became a safe space to so many.

Holly - who never knew how read and write - fed a community for decades, creating meals from the hear. She did this all while raising a family along the way.

Sam from Grafton faced floods and witnessed history only few could imagine. He kept his story secret for decades and when you hear it, you'll understand just how remarkable he is.

These are just four residents that we're incredibly proud to care for at Whiddon. Their lives - and many others - remind us that if you only see age, you miss the person. Look again.

We're thrilled to have worked on this campaign - More to Me - sharing the stories of four incredible residents. This is a little snippet of what's to come. Keep an eye out as we share the stories of Bill, Ros, Holly and Sam or find out more here: https://tinyurl.com/3fkru8sr
