Late last year, we shared the exciting news that Whiddon had secured $19.5 million in Federal Government funding to redevelop our Temora Home. Together with Whiddon’s own investment, this brings the total project value to $25.6 million.

This redevelopment will bring Temora Greenstone and Narraburra Lodge together into one modern, purpose‑built Home designed to better support residents now and into the future. The redevelopment will include:

✅A new two‑storey wing with 52 aged care places
✅An enhanced Memory Support Home
✅Upgraded kitchen and laundry facilities
✅A coffee kiosk, hair salon and gym
✅New resident gardens and activity spaces

Last week, our Leadership Team visited Temora to share the redevelopment plans and announce the exciting plans that construction is scheduled to begin in May. The project is expected to take around 18 months to complete. As part of this process, Greenstone Lodge will eventually close and our residents will transfer into our newly developed and enhanced Narraburra home.

We are proud to be investing in the future of aged care in Temora and are excited about what this redevelopment will mean for residents, families and the wider community.

Watch this space as we share more about this exciting project in the coming months.

A recent memorial service at Whiddon Easton Park - Sir David Martin reminded us of the reality in aged care: we form deep connections, and we also experience loss. It’s never easy, but it’s something we honour with honesty, respect and care.

Every 6 months, our care home brings families, residents and team members together to reflect, remember and celebrate the lives of the residents who have passed. These services give us space to share stories, offer support and acknowledge the impact each person has had on our community.

A heartfelt thank you to Sister Mary, whose dedication helps create an atmosphere of warmth and reflection for everyone who attends.

And thank you to all who joined us. Your presence, memories and support make these services deeply meaningful.

🌊 Beach Day at Brighton-Le-Sands

Our Whiddon Easton Park - Arthur Webb Court residents enjoyed a lovely bus outing to Brighton-Le-Sands for a relaxing day by the water.

Sitting seaside with perfect weather overhead, residents tucked into classic favourites like hot chips and potato scallops while soaking up the fresh air and ocean views.

A simple day out, great company, and plenty of smiles made it a memorable outing for everyone involved.

✒️ Meet Dean from Whiddon Casino ✒️
Five years ago, Dean discovered a book on pen making and decided to give it a go. Drawing on his talent in woodwork, he bought a lathe and began crafting pens from timbers such as Camphor laurel, Huon Pine, Fig and Hairy Oak.

Dean’s handcrafted pens quickly became popular through word of mouth, with some even displayed at the Casino Army Museum. Now 84, Dean estimates he has made over 1500 pens and continues creating today - a great reminder that passion, creativity and learning something new can always be a part of life.

We’re celebrating a very special milestone: TEN YEARS with one of our much‑loved residents, Pauline from Whiddon Mudgee. 💛

Her favourite part of life at Whiddon? The friendships she’s made along the way. Being surrounded by friends who feel like family, and staff who treat her like family too, has created so many cherished memories.

Her days are often spent just the way she likes them, enjoying a cup of tea with a biscuit and a good chat, watching movies, or joining in on old‑time sing‑alongs. And when happy hour rolls around, you’ll find her singing her favourite old‑time tunes with a shandy in hand. 🎶

Congratulations on ten beautiful years and here’s to many more moments of connection, laughter and song.

🎂 Celebrating 100 Years with Charles 🎂

On Tuesday 24th March, our resident Charles at Whiddon Easton Park - Sir David Martin joined our centenarian club, celebrating his 100th birthday.

Having called Whiddon home for more than two years, Charles chose to keep the day low key. To him, age is just a number, whether it’s 50 or 100. Instead of decorations or a large celebration, he greeted visitors with chocolates and his well known sense of humour.

Family and friends visited throughout the day, sharing time and conversation with him. Chris, our CEO, stopped by with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, which Charles appreciated. His sister Nancy was also able to visit, and they spent some lovely time together in the café area, chatting and enjoying each other’s company.

The day featured some of Charles’ favourites, including fruit cake and a roast lamb lunch. His RBC Buddy, Theresa, played an important role in making the day special and supporting Charles throughout the celebration.

A wonderful day celebrating a remarkable century and the quiet character that makes Charles so loved. 💙

Our resident Merle has never thought of herself as a writer. In fact, writing was the one thing she disliked most at school, especially holiday homework. It wasn’t until later in life that writing became something she enjoyed.

While attending a local seniors group, the group worked through the alphabet each week, and instead of bringing in an item, Merle began writing letters based on the chosen letter.

From there, letter writing became a regular habit, particularly letters to her sisters. Now a permanent resident at Whiddon Kyogle, Merle says she’s still amazed that anyone else would be interested in her letters – which makes hearing them read aloud all the more special! 📝

Here's a lovely reading of her letter "W"

Whiddon Casino recently welcomed back students from St Mary’s Primary and St Mary’s Catholic College for another intergenerational get together, and the connection in the room was something special.

Residents and students faced off in a lively word game, with plenty of friendly competition and laughter shared along the way.

Intergenerational connections help older people feel connected, while younger generations gain insight, respect and understanding through shared stories and gentle words of wisdom. ❤️

Earlier this year, our Whiddon Mudgee home came together for a morning tea to celebrate Bill Kerr and acknowledge a lifetime of quiet service. Surrounded by his family, fellow residents and team members, Bill was presented with a plaque as a mark of respect and appreciation for the life he has led and the values he has passed on.

There is more to Bill than the years that mark his life. If we only see age, we miss the person. Taking the time to pause, reflect and celebrate him reminds us that every story deserves to be seen and acknowledged. Please take the time to watch this video of Bill and his amazing story: https://loom.ly/bdfFteQ

At Whiddon Belmont, the Moonyah community has been keeping active and connected with a friendly game of bocce. Activities like this are especially important for residents living with dementia, helping to support movement, confidence, and meaningful social interaction.

And speaking of creativity, team member Karen has become a weekly favourite with her Mr Whippy-style trolley. Every week she brings smiles and sweet treats on her ice-cream run, and the Moonyah residents look forward to it each time.

We love seeing the thoughtful and imaginative ways our team members bring comfort and purpose to life in our Memory Support Homes.

Neighbour Day was celebrated over the weekend, reminding us of the many ways community comes to life at Whiddon – not just on one day, but throughout the year.

From local community visits and outings, to opening our homes to neighbours, spending time with school students through intergenerational programs, and rural homes supporting and visiting one another, staying connected looks different across every community.

It’s these shared, ongoing moments that help create a genuine sense of belonging for our Whiddon family.
