🦷 Did you know your dog’s teeth are as valuable to them as our hands are to us? From eating to playing and even carrying things, their mouths do it all. That is why dental health is such an important part of your dog’s overall wellbeing.

Looking after your dog’s teeth can:

- Prevent bad breath
- Reduce the risk of gum disease
- Avoid costly tooth loss and vet visits
- Support long-term health, with gum disease linked to heart, liver and kidney issues

The good news is there are simple ways to stay on top of dental care at home. Brushing your dog’s teeth regularly with pet-safe toothpaste, offering the right dental chews such as PEDIGREEĀ® DENTASTIXā„¢, and feeding a diet that supports oral health can all make a real difference. Safe chew toys designed to help remove plaque are another useful tool, and regular check-ups with your vet ensure any issues are detected early.

By building these habits into your routine, you will help your dog stay healthier, happier and more comfortable well into the future.

šŸŽ When it comes to breeding, nutrition is one of the most powerful tools you have to set mares and foals up for a healthy future. From body condition scoring before conception, to the sharp rise in energy, protein, calcium, and phosphorus requirements in late pregnancy, every stage brings unique feeding demands. Getting it right reduces the risk of growth issues in foals, supports fertility, and ensures mares stay in condition for future breeding seasons.

Key times to focus on include:

Pre-conception, where body condition and pasture quality determine whether a balancer or complete feed is needed.

The third trimester, when nutrient demands increase dramatically and shortfalls can affect foal development.

Early lactation, when mares produce up to 20 litres of milk a day and need to draw on both their diet and body reserves.

Good nutrition is more than maintenance, it’s an investment in your mare’s long-term health and your foal’s potential.

That’s why feeds like Barastoc KER Stud Balancer and Barastoc Breed N Grow are formulated to meet mares’ needs at different stages of breeding and lactation, giving both mare and foal the best start possible.

🪲 Tick season is here, is your dog protected?

Ticks aren’t just a nuisance, they can cause serious and even fatal diseases in dogs, from paralysis to life-threatening infections. With peak tick activity in spring and summer, it’s vital for dog owners to know:
- The different types of ticks in Australia; paralysis, brown dog, and bush ticks
- The symptoms to watch for, including wobbliness, vomiting, and laboured breathing
- How to check your dog daily and safely remove ticks if you find one

Prevention is key. Daily tick searches combined with proven protection, like NexGardĀ® or NexGard SPECTRAĀ®, give your best mate year-round defence against paralysis ticks, brown dog ticks and bush ticks.

🐓 Why timing matters when it comes to worming your horse

Encysted small strongyles (roundworms) can pose a serious risk, especially in late autumn, early spring, or when bringing new horses onto your property. Targeting them at the right time is key to protecting your horse’s gut health and reducing pasture contamination.

That’s where ULTIMUMĀ® comes in. Developed and made in Australia, this long-acting broad-spectrum wormer combines moxidectin and praziquantel to deliver:
- Timely treatment for encysted small strongyles
- Targeted control for high shedders and new horses with unknown worming history
- Powerful, sustained protection with an Egg Reappearance Period (ERP) of at least 14 weeks

Safe for foals (over 4 weeks), breeding mares and stallions, ULTIMUM is an essential part of Virbac’s Gold Standard strategic worming program alongside EQUIMAXĀ®, EQUIMAX ELEVATIONĀ® and STRATEGY-TĀ®.

At CRT, we’re all about helping you keep your pets happy and healthy. That’s why we’re spotlighting Cobber’s Inner Goodness formula, designed with the full gut health trio: prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics, plus the right balance of vitamins, minerals, and functional fibres.

šŸ’› Every conversation is an opportunity to make a difference — that’s why CRT is encouraging our rural communities to open the gate to conversations about mental health.

Our back office team stands proudly alongside our stores and their communities to raise awareness. Today, we hear from Michelle, Demi, Carla and Aggie from our CRT warehouse in Darra, QLD, as they share why open conversations matter and how we can all play a role in supporting mental health in agriculture.

It only takes one chat to make an impact. Let’s make sure these conversations don’t just happen on R U OK? Day, but every day.

And if talking face to face feels too hard, remember TIACS offers free mental health support for farmers and the ag community, call or text 0488 846 988 (Mon–Fri, 8am–10pm).
