Simply Bowen Therapy

Simply Bowen Therapy I aim to help relieve your pains, using assessment-based approach to bring your body back to balance There is no force, no manipulation, no cracking bones.

simply bowen therapy helps people repair their body – and keep it that way – using this gentle Australian therapy. Bowen therapy uses precise moves on muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves to stimulate the body to begin a healing and adjusting process. The Bowen moves help to restore the body’s balance from fight/flight mode, to rest/relax mode, working with the muscles and fascia to help the bod

y return to it’s natural blue-print. In contrast to many other conventional therapies, Bowen doesn’t impose a correction on a person’s muscles, but triggers the muscles to begin to correct themselves. In fact, many people fall asleep during treatment. Being so gentle, Bowen Therapy is safe for all ages – babies to the elderly – and helps both injuries and chronic problems. Based in St Peters in Sydney’s Inner West, simply bowen therapy is personal, caring and takes a practical approach to your treatment.

The majority of the people who come to see me have back pain, and they've had it for a fair while before they discover and try Bowen Therapy.

One such lady had been struggling with sciatic pain for months. She could no longer sleep in bed, but napped in a reclining chair. There was hope that a cortisone shot would help, but it seemed to give no relief. Her daughter insisted she try Bowen, and she reluctantly agreed.

I love the assessment-based approach I've been using the past few years, as it helps locate the source of pain, rather than the site of pain. And assessment indicated that a neck restriction needed treatment to bring the body back to balance.

It took a few days for her pain to start to subside, but she had a huge smile on her face telling me that she was able to sleep in bed again ! There's still a little more work before the pain is fully gone, we're on the right track !

I'm back on board after that whirlwind week away - a short trip to catch up with friends, spend time with a mentor in clinic, then a few days hiking in the Grampians !

I am going to say... both the long drive, as well as the hiking on those hard granite rocks, have wreaked havoc on my body ! I knew when I started to feel those niggles that I wanted to jump on them straight away, before they became a bigger problem - I booked myself for a treatment ! I can't wait til tomorrow to get realigned !!

In the meantime, one of my few selfies - this one from sunrise on Mount Gar (aka Mount Difficult).

Ready for a couple of days off, after some awesome mentoring and fine-tuning assessment skills !

24/03/2023

I’m off for the next week to spend time with my mentor in his clinic, further refining my assessment skills - to be even more awesome !
Time driving down the Hume highway had me contemplating both past and recent conversations about whether us therapists need more modalities to be better/more attractive. I’ve become clearer in my belief in the power of assessment-led Bowen Therapy, and how effective it is in finding and treating the source of pain, rather than the site of pain !

I'm loving the latest mural in the area, near the exit from St Peters train station - I truly hope taggers don't get to it !

A quick update on dates - next week I'll be away from Friday March 24 and reopen on Tuesday April 4.

No, it's not holiday (but I will have a few days in the Grampians on the way back), with the plan to further refine my assessment skills in clinic with one of my trainers...

To make up for not being open on Monday 3, I'll open on Easter Friday - note that the morning is already booked up !

Well, I put on my handy-woman hat over the weekend, and installed a high-tech doorbell ! Still a few things to iron out with it, but I'll "hear" it (well, my phone will), even if I'm in the back of the house !

(Now, for those holes in the bricks and replacing the sign... soon !)

What a beautiful, moody Saturday to get out into the bush again !

A small group of ladies headed to the outskirts of Sydney, to hike to and clamber along Dalpura Canyon/Creek, to reach this pool at the end ! I'm thankful that the water wasn't too cold along the creek, as it was up to our waist at times... but we all insisted on swimming to that little waterfall, and that water was chilly !

I'm looking forward to this Sydney weather cooling a little to hit another trail on the weekend (and hopefully there's no rain !!)

I’ve finally been given my little aircon unit back !
It’s now cleaned up and checked, ready to cool the room the next couple of hot days - it’s a bit noisy, so I’ll pump it up to pre-cool the room in the short breaks between clients !
Unfortunately I can’t put a motor unit on the front porch, and also old brick terrace layout doesn’t work well for ducted aircon, so this little unit is all that’s possible… but thankfully the clinic room in the south, shady side of the building is usually pretty cool and comfortable with the ceiling fan, even on warm days !

This was an interesting read on my lunch break today...

I am a self-confessed coffee-addict, who for a long time required coffee first thing in the morning to feel human !

In an attempt to help calm my body and support adrenals, I recently tried a suggestion to make sure that I eat within about 30minutes of waking (helps stop a cortisol spike), and don't put coffee on an empty stomach... it only took a few days for me to notice the difference it made, and am now generally good with a single cup in the morning (ok, a double shot) rather than desperately needing two cups...

But I'm not sure that I can hold out 90 minutes before my first cup !

How's your sleep ? and when do you drink coffee ?

Coffee and tea have some great benefits but "the timing of it should be considered."

I often see clients wearing these smart watches, and wonder the impact… I see the electromagnetic field lights and wonder what negative impact they could have ?
I don’t own one, so haven’t experienced the difference with or without.
I wonder if any of you have experienced differences in how your body feel with and without the smart watch ?
Let me know if you do… or if you trial some time without it and notice a difference !

I once had a client come to me for back pain. During my assessment, I noticed he was wearing a FitBit on his wrist. I've seen time and time again how the EM fields from such devices can affect the body so I had him take it off. His body alignment improved immediately and his pain went away. It suddenly occurred to him his pain hadn't started until he was gifted the device for Christmas.

A new client had a hard time getting to me the other night, with google maps sending her around in circles... eventually she made it, and now knows how to get here for next time...

I can now better understand how she got lost... I needed to go to the dentist in Campsie this morning - somehow google maps was trying to drop me into the Westconnex tunnel via a neighbour's back garden !

Now, that new tunnel is an awesome way to skip a lot of the smaller roads and traffic to get here, but google doesn't seem to know what it's doing yet... and the signage is a bit rubbish until you know the exit you're after (learned experience here - I had an unplanned trip to Ashfield !)

If you come that way, I think the exits all say Gardeners Road and airport, until you start to take that exit where it'll add City and Euston Road. Pretty soon it will add Campbell St and Sydenham - and that's where you want to go ! Turn right from Campbell St onto the Princes Highway, and just after the May St lights (opposite Sydney Park) turn directly into Goodsell St - one corner has an apartment block, the other a big orange painted building next to Scout Pilates...
