Myofascial release is a specialised type of bodywork that manipulates the connective tissue or fascia of the body. ⁠⠀

This amazing stuff surrounds our muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, organs, and nerves. It binds some structures together while allowing others to slide smoothly over one another.⁠⠀

But when this elastic and free moving fascia ⁠⠀
is put under repetitive movements, or stress, things can go awry. This kind of speaks to every single modern day human, doesn't it?⁠⠀

Dr Stephen Porges says "when you exhale, the vagal influences to your heart's pacemaker get optimized. When you inhale, your heart rate goes up. And when you exhale, your heart rate goes down. If you spend more of your time exhaling, you calm your body down."⁠⠀

Oh so true! I pride myself on having a holistic approach to my treatments (because we are holistic beings, not just parts here and there!), and often speak on my blog about the power of the breath. And this ☝ quote from Dr Porges explains exactly why.⁠⠀

Yep, this is the perfect time to read my all my beloved text books. So tbh things aren't looking that much different in my world haha! Yes there's books. Yes there's quizzes. Yes there's study groups (shout out to 💕).

But there's also a LOT of slowing down going on. A lot of walking the dog and taking in fresh air sans phone. A lot of .⁠⠀

Ok, so I talk about Structural Integration quite a lot, you may have noticed ;) What can I say, I’m a BIG fan of this particular physical touch modality and as recently announced, I’ve decided to shift my entire practice around it! Woohoooo!!⁠⠀
⁠⠀
That’s right, I’ve recently transitioned from offering primarily Remedial Massage Therapy (and I also ran a successful Yoga studio for a number of years) to offering specialised myofascial release bodywork sessions and the more advanced protocol: Structural Integration.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
But, what does that all mean?!⁠⠀

In January this year, one of my dreams came true. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
For years I'd dreamt and thought about it. And it finally happened!⁠⠀
⁠⠀
This January I spent a week in Boulder, doing a a cadaver dissection course with Tom Myers of Anatomy Trains and his team. We were in Todd Garcia's lab, a master dissector, along with students from all over the world - 48 students in total! ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
To bring everything I've learned over the last couple of decades to a whole new level was an unforgettable experience, and tbh I'm still processing it all. How amazing and resilient is the human body. How lucky am I! (📷 )⁠⠀⁠⠀⁠⠀⁠⠀

To be honest, homeschooling 2 kiddos, and having a full household at home every day (when it just to be just me!), not to mention having to temporarily close my bricks and mortar business (that I love!) is taking up all my energy at the moment. Just quietly, this time is exhausting. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
There are so many businesses out there who have been flipped upside-down, and it's great that some peeps are finding creative ways to navigate this intense time. But it's also ok to just stop for a moment. It's ok to need to take a breath. It's ok to just be.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Thankyou to for this gentle reminder. So so needed at this time xo⁠⠀⁠⠀⁠⠀⁠⠀
