ANNOUNCEMENT FROM OUR USYD COLLEAGUES:
The SUSS Surgical Mixer Night is back – and this year, it's bigger and more accessible than ever.
Whether you're in your first year of medicine and just beginning to wonder what a surgical career might look like, or you're further along and ready to make serious connections – this night is for you. You don't need to have your specialty figured out. You just need to be curious.
The evening kicks off with a keynote from A/Prof Anthony Glover, who will share his career journey, the decisions that shaped it, and honest, practical advice for students at every stage. This is followed by a panel discussion with SET trainees and registrars across a range of subspecialties – giving you a real, unfiltered picture of what surgical training actually looks like: the hours, the lifestyle, the rewards, and how to stand out as a candidate.
After a short intermission, the night moves into its centrepiece: small breakout sessions where groups of students rotate between tables hosted by surgeons from across different subspecialties. It's an intimate format – small enough that you can have a real conversation, ask the questions you'd never ask on the ward, and hear genuinely candid perspectives on training, lifestyle, and what it actually takes to get there. Past attendees have walked away with mentors, research opportunities, and connections that have shaped their careers.
Your ticket includes:
Fully catered event – food and drinks included
Entry into a draw to win a SUSS suturing kit
Access to one of the best networking opportunities in Sydney medicine
Friday 26 June, 6 – 8:30pm · Susan Wakil Health Building, University of Sydney
