Why would a cosmetic physician go to an Emergency Medicine (EM) conference?
Some of my patients would know that my background is EM and I like to keep up with new developments as well as brush up on clinical knowledge.
In many ways, EM is a great base with which to start cosmetic medicine.
An EM consultant goes through a specialist pathway mastering basic science such as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and pathology and then gaining clinical skills in rapidly assessing patients, instituting potentially life saving treatments with limited information, procedural skills, point of care ultrasound and dealing every day with multiple groups of people such as patients, their families, other hospital staff, consultants, GPs, ambulance, police etc. You are skilled in communication, resourcefulness, teamwork, calmly making rapid effective decisions and have lots of technical experience in procedures involving skin.
Of course, much additional training is required in cosmetic medicine but aren't those unique EM qualities and skills one could use just as effectively in cosmetic medicine?
