Protection is not preparation 💡

We keep our kids safe for 17 years.

Then one day, the rules flip and they need to budget, cook, make appointments, manage time... all without someone managing them.

Nobody taught the transition. We just assumed they'd pick it up.

They didn't. And that's not a failure, it's a gap nobody named.

The fix isn't complicated:
→ Let them start things without being asked (dozens of times, not once)
→ Give them small choices with real consequences
→ Let them get it wrong before the stakes are real

If your teenager can follow instructions but freezes when nobody gives them, that's not laziness. It's lack of practice.

What's one thing you still do for your teen that they could probably handle themselves?

Has anyone ever asked you: "What can your child already do?"
Not what they struggle with. Not their diagnosis. What they can already do.

When we start a mapping session with a young person, that's always the first question. Parents usually list 3–4 things. The young person? Lists 23.

We've been so focused on what's missing that we forget to look at what's already there 💡

Try this tonight: ask your teenager — "What can you already do without help?" Write down what they say. Don't add to it. Don't correct it.

That list is your starting point. Everything else builds from there.
What surprised you about what your teen can actually do on their own? Tell us below 👇

From our Founder:

Today I had the privilege of being in the room with some incredible NDIS leaders at an event that genuinely challenged the way I think about growing a business in this sector.

The conversations, the energy, the honesty in that room this is exactly why I do what I do.

Building a business in the disability sector isn't just about compliance and cashflow. It's about purpose. It's about the people we serve. And it's about having the clarity and confidence to lead well even when the sector is shifting under our feet.

Thank you Norman for creating a space where NDIS providers can grow with integrity. The work you do through Bestie in Business is genuinely changing how we show up as leaders in this space.

If you're an NDIS provider trying to build something sustainable and values-led go find Vanessa. You won't regret it.
