Today, we pause and join the , honoring the tiny lives that have left a lasting impact. 🕯️💫 As doulas, we walk alongside families in times of joy and sorrow, and we know that the journey of grief is one no parent should face alone.

On this Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, we remember and hold space for every little soul lost during pregnancy or infancy and send love to the families who carry them in their hearts every day. You are seen, your loss is felt, and your baby’s light continues to shine. 💜

A different post than I had anticipated nearing the end of !

My littlest love was in the hospital today, with respiratory distress (another thank you to for arming all the parents with this important info!).

I was asked all the regular questions, how much is he drinking and eating. I explained that he hasn’t had much of an appetite but still drinking a decent amount of water, and that he still breastfeeds. This was the conversation:

Doctor: oh… how old is he again?
Me: he’s 3.
Doctor: oh ok. So is that just for.. um.. comfort or?
Me: yes, sometimes.
Doctor: ok. So is it for nutrition or comfort?
Me: both I imagine. As well as hydration and I guess antibodies in times like this.
Doctor: ok. How many ml does he have?
Me: I couldn’t tell you… usually once or twice a day but about 6 times in the last 24 hours. I can’t tell you how much volume.
Doctor: right ok. I’ll just put down that he breastfeeds out of habit then.

How can we expect the general population to accept and support breastfeeding, when our medical practitioners still don’t understand the process and benefits?

We need to start there, in my opinion.

It’s been a while since I’ve shown up here, but I can’t let World Breastfeeding Week pass without sharing.

This will likely be my last WBW while still breastfeeding. L is 3.5 and only has one or two feeds a day and has gone days without anything at all.

Each WBW there is a theme. This year’s theme is Closing the gap: Breastfeeding support for all.

The campaign will celebrate breastfeeding mothers in all their diversity, throughout their breastfeeding journeys, while showcasing the ways families, societies, communities and health workers can have the back of every breastfeeding mother.

Over the next week I plan on sharing some moments and feelings about my journey ♥️

Mother’s Day hits different when you know there are 2 mothers being murdered every hour in Gaza.
When you know there are mothers searching for their children in rubble.
When you know there are mothers holding their children’s bodies, begging for them to wake up.
When there are mothers not sleeping, holding their children hoping they survive the night.

I hold my babies closer, and these women (and men) and babies are never far from my thoughts. We cannot be free until we are ALL free.

I don’t know if Maternal Health Awareness Week was last week or this (getting conflicting dates online 😵‍💫) but I wanted to send all my love to the mothers experiencing difficulty in their postpartum period right now. As a mother who experienced postpartum anxiety, my heart goes out to you ♥️

Whether that be rage, depression, anxiety, trauma or anything in between… On Mother’s Day eve, I want you to know that these feelings don’t make you less of an incredible mama.

Happy World Doula Week!

The purpose of World Doula Week is to empower doulas all over the world to improve the physiological, social, emotional, and psychological health of women, newborns and families in birth and in the postpartum period.

When I’m asked to describe the role of a doula, I always struggle. It’s not ✨just✨ about lowering interventions and increasing birth satisfaction.

Having doula support is a feeling. A feeling of love, support and unwavering confidence through the vulnerability of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. A feeling of deep reverence and connection.

So celebrate your doula today! 😍 Sending all my love to my own incredible doulas and ♥️

Happy World Hypnobirthing Day! ✨

Over the last 5 years teaching the program, I have seen incredible things.

Women who have previous trauma who are petrified to birth again have gone on to birth their babies in their own power, aware of their rights and choices, supported by their birth partners and in complete confidence.

I have seen women have calm, quiet and tranquil births.

I have seen women roar their babies earthside with no awareness of anyone else in the room.

I have seen women’s circumstances change and either require or desire a c section, and I have seen those women accept those decisions with an open heart. I have had a woman describe her unwanted (but necessary) repeat c section as healing and powerful.

I have seen partners who initially had no idea what an umbilical cord was, go on to advocate for their partners and support them in the most beautiful ways.

The power of Hypnobirthing reverberates far beyond birth. It makes its way into your immediate postpartum and I believe can even influence your entire parenting journey.

I’d love to hear your experience of Hypnobirthing in the comments! 😍

3 years breastfeeding my sun ☀️

6.5 straight years (plus pregnancy) of nourishing little people with my body.

A journey that has taught me patience, resilience, and the incredible strength of the bond between a mother and her child.

Every milestone reached, every cuddle shared while feeding, has only deepened the profound connection between us.

An honour to be asked to be on the Q&A panel for last nights viewing in Coffs Harbour, especially alongside the incredible !
There was a great turn out of consumers, midwives and other birth workers which was amazing to see. Some really important questions were asked, namely the ones about what can we actually do to influence change.
The film was incredibly made. I was brought to tears multiple times but also belly laughed. It was a roller coaster.
Always thankful for these opportunities to be with other women, midwives and birth workers 🙏
