If prolonged stress can have such a profound effect on the bodyโ€ฆ how do we support it back into equilibrium?

One of the most important things I think women need to understand is this:

The body is constantly adapting to the environment itโ€™s living in.

Stress. Poor sleep. Overwhelm. Nervous system overload. Blood sugar instability. Chronic pressure. Self-abandonment. Constant โ€œpushing through.โ€

Over time, these things can profoundly affect mood, energy, metabolism, hormonal resilience, sleep quality and how we feel in our body.

Not because the body is weak.

But because physiology is intelligent.

The body adapts to prolonged stress in order to survive.

Strong women are often praised for coping while their body quietly carries the costโ€ฆ so how do we change the narrative?

The woman who keeps going.

The woman who carries everyone.

The woman who pushes through.

Gets things done.

Keeps functioning.

Looks capable from the outside.

And for a while?

That works.

Until eventually the body starts asking for something different.

Because physiology keeps score.

Chronic stress adaptation changes things.

Sleep becomes less restorative.

Stress tolerance narrows.

Blood sugar regulation becomes less resilient.

Energy becomes harder to create.

Mood becomes less buffered.

Weight becomes more stubborn.

Hormonal transitions can feel rougher.

I know that might sound controversial when social media is full of messages telling women that perimenopause is the reason everything suddenly starts going wrong.

The anxiety.
The weight gain.
The poor sleep.
The mood swings.
The cravings.
The fatigue.
The bloating.
The sense that your body has become unfamiliar.

But what if perimenopause itself isnโ€™t actually the villain?

Perimenopause is a normal physiological transition.

A major recalibration, yes.

But not a disease.

And hereโ€™s the thought I keep coming back toโ€ฆ

So many women have been taught that health means consistency.

The same output.
The same energy.
The same routines.
The same productivity.

We are rhythmic by nature.

Our hormones shift.

Our energy changes.

For a long time, I thought discipline meant overriding my body.

Push through.
Keep going.
Stay productive.
Ignore tiredness.
Expect the same output from myself every single day.

I treated my body like it should behave like a machine.

Consistent. Predictable. Always available.

And honestly?

That way of living created so much pressure.

Pressure on my nervous system.
Pressure on my hormones.
Pressure on my metabolism.
Pressure on ๐’Ž๐’†.

But women are not machines.

We are rhythmic by nature.

And when I began learning to honour that instead of constantly fighting against itโ€ฆ things began to shift.

More calm.
