Being unwell is expensive.

Because one of the most expensive things in women’s health is spending money on what never gets near the real cause.

And I don’t just mean the cost of supplements, appointments, or healthy food.

I mean the hidden cost.

The cost of being so tired that takeaway feels easier than cooking.

The cost of reaching for sugar or caffeine because your energy keeps crashing.

The cost of poor sleep making everything feel harder the next day.

The cost of buying more and more things because nothing seems to be properly working.

This is something I think many women are feeling right now.

Not only is everything more expensive…

but when your body is under-supported, life becomes more expensive too.

Because when metabolism isn’t working efficiently, it doesn’t just affect weight.

It affects:

your mood
your cravings
your capacity to make clear decisions

And this is where so many women get stuck.

Everything feels more expensive right now…

And I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

Because I care deeply about how women nourish themselves.

Not in a restrictive or complicated way…
But in a way that actually supports their body.

For me, food should be:
simple
wholesome
nutrient-dense
and grounding

Something that leaves you feeling steady.
Clear.
Satisfied.

But what I’m seeing more and more is…

Women are trying really hard to take care of themselves —
and still not getting the results they want.

Not because you’re doing anything wrong.

But because your body isn’t being supported in the way it actually needs.
And when that happens…

The tiredness that doesn’t lift… even after a full night’s sleep.
The shifts in mood that feel harder to stabilise than they used to.
That pull towards something mid-afternoon or at night… even when you’re not truly hungry.
And the weight that just seems to keep creeping up… no matter how careful you’re trying to be.

Not because you’re not trying hard enough.
But because your body is under-supported.

This is where I see things start to shift for women.

When we move away from:
trying more
buying more
doing more

And instead begin to:
support the body properly
nourish it consistently
and work with it — not against it

Because when the body feels supported…
Energy stabilises.
Food becomes more satisfying.

But if you’re:
• waking up tired no matter how much you sleep
• pushing through the day on caffeine
• crashing in the afternoon or at night
• gaining weight even though you’re trying to eat well

Your body is not coping the way it should.

And trying harder won’t fix it.

Because this isn’t just about food.

When your nervous system is stuck in protection mode, your body cannot properly receive nourishment.

And when your body can’t receive — metabolism slows, energy drops, and everything feels harder.

Do you ever notice your brain takes a moment to “catch up” when something unexpected happens?

Someone asks you a question…

And instead of responding easily, you pause.

You have to think.

Find your words.

Shift gears.

For many women, this can feel unsettling.

It’s easy to wonder:

“Is this ADHD?”
“Is this perimenopause?”
“Why does my brain feel slower?”

And yes — sometimes those things can be part of the picture.

But they’re not always the whole picture.

There’s another factor I see often that isn’t talked about enough.

**Cognitive load.**

When your brain has been processing, planning, holding, and responding for long periods of time…

It doesn’t always switch quickly on demand.

Not because it can’t.

But because it’s been carrying a lot.

The brain is one of the most metabolically demanding organs in the body.

And when your nervous system has been under sustained pressure…

Your mental spark can soften.

Not disappear.

Just… slow.

This is often where we try to push harder.

Think faster.
Do more.
Force clarity.

But the solution isn’t more force.

It’s understanding what your body is asking for.

Because when the body begins to feel supported…

Something shifts.

Your mind becomes clearer.
More responsive.
More like you again.

Your body isn’t failing you.

It’s adapting.

And when you begin to understand these signals…

This is how the body starts to return to stability.

I noticed something the other night that I see often in women I work with.

That familiar pull for something more… even when you’re not actually hungry.

Your body is asking for something — but it’s not necessarily food.
You’re trying to feel complete.

This is something I see so often in women.

You’ve eaten dinner.
You’re not truly hungry.
But there’s still that pull for something.

Something warm.
Something comforting.
Something to land into.

And it’s easy to think:
“I just need more discipline.”

But here’s what I want you to understand.
The body doesn’t stop seeking when it’s full.

It stops seeking when it feels complete.

Late-night grazing isn’t usually about hunger.

It’s your nervous system asking for something it hasn’t received yet:
• sensory satisfaction
• emotional closure
• a physiological downshift

After a full day of output, stimulation, and responsibility…
Your body is looking for a way to finish.

What’s often missing isn’t less food.

It’s a structured, satisfying ending to the day.

This is why simple rituals can be so powerful.

A warm, nourishing drink
A quiet moment.
A consistent “this is where I land” signal.

Not restriction.
Not willpower.
But intentional completion.

For me, it often looks like a warm cocoa with cinnamon before bed.
Something simple… but deeply settling.

Because when your body feels complete…
The seeking stops.

Your body isn’t being difficult.
It’s being intelligent.

This is something I look at often in clinic — because these patterns tell us a lot about what your nervous system and metabolism actually need.

And over time, we work on restoring that sense of steadiness from within.
