Halloween magic filled the clinic this week, starting with our Clinical Team Leader getting wrapped up like a mummy! 🧻😂

Our incredible Therapy Assistants went above and beyond, transforming learning goals into spooky-themed fun for our older kids who love all things Halloween. 👻

From themed crafts and games to laughter echoing through the halls, the team found creative ways to spark joy, imagination, and connection, all while supporting meaningful skill development. 🧡

For those who enjoy the Halloween festivities, we hope your day is filled with fun, laughter, and a little bit of magic. ✨

Meet Amanda 👋

Our inspiring Clinical Team Leader, guiding our clinical team with care, experience, and lots of enthusiasm!

Amanda started at Mosaic in 2019 and has worked her way up from Behaviour Technician to Behaviour Consultant before stepping into her current role.

✨ What Amanda loves most about Mosaic:

“Seeing my clients make progress towards their goals, and all of the learning and collaboration opportunities!”

When she’s not supporting the team or running therapy sessions, Amanda loves:

🍝 Trying new restaurants, exploring new places, and enjoying pasta (her ultimate comfort food)

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Spending time with her friends and family

🎬 Binge-watching her favourite shows like The Summer I Turned Pretty and The Real Housewives

Fun fact: Amanda is first-generation Australian with Chilean roots, understands Spanish, still hasn’t learned to ride a bike 🚲, and if she could have any superpower, it would be teleportation 🌏

Next time you visit Mosaic, you might just catch Amanda sharing a bubble, slime, or smile with the kiddos. Making every session a little more fun and memorable.

🎉 BIG NEWS: The New National Standard for ECI is Here.

September 30 marked the launch of the National Best Practice Framework for Early Childhood Intervention, a major moment for families in Australia!

This Framework provides clear, national guidance on what high-quality, effective support looks like for children up to 9 years old with developmental needs.

The ultimate goal, shared by us (MEI) and the Australian government, is simple:

That children with developmental concerns or disabilities, and their families, thrive in the early years.

The framework sets the standard, and Mosaic is proud to be living it every day.

This week, we pause to recognise the incredible strength, dedication, and love of Australia’s three million carers, especially the partners and parents in our community.

At Mosaic Early Intervention, we see you, we value you, and we are committed to walking alongside you. Our support includes:

• Evidence-Based Supports:
Delivering high-quality, effective ABA that builds on your child’s strengths and supports meaningful skill development, making daily life more manageable for families.

• Empowering Families:
Our family-centred approach prioritises collaboration, helping reduce stress while equipping you with tools to navigate your child’s journey with confidence.

Whether you’re a parent, partner, or sibling caring for a child with a disability, please know: you are not alone, and support is here when you need it.

Debunking the Myth: ABA Therapy & Mental Health 🧠💪

A common misconception is that Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) only targets surface-level behaviours. However, the comprehensive evidence review in the NASEM 2025 Report on the Comprehensive Autism Care Demonstration (ACD) confirms that high-quality ABA is strongly linked to better mental health and overall well-being for autistic individuals!

Here’s what the evidence shows:

- Holistic Health Outcomes: ABA interventions aim for outcomes that promote both physical and psychological well-being and enhance the quality of life.

- Targeting Core Challenges: Effective ABA addresses key areas that significantly impact daily functioning, such as communication, social skills, and adaptive behaviours.

- Reducing Mental Health Issues: Data analyses from the report suggest that receiving ABA services shows a positive association with reducing the need for services related to depression and anxiety in older children.

- Focus on Adaptive Skills: Improving adaptive skills - like communication, problem-solving, and self-care - is central to ABA and is critical for an individual’s overall independence and well-being throughout their life.

At Mosaic Early Intervention, we believe in a compassionate, individualised approach to ABA that not only builds essential skills but genuinely supports the whole person for a better, happier future.

Say hello to Hannah 👋

Our wonderful Psychologist, bringing warmth, experience, and plenty of fun to every session!

Hannah trained and worked as a Psychologist in the UK for 10 years before moving to Australia, and now specialises in supporting children on the Autism Spectrum.

✨ What Hannah loves most about Mosaic:

“Hanging out with the most fun and entertaining children you could meet.”

When she’s not at Mosaic, Hannah loves:

🎲 Playing Uno with the children she supports (it’s her go-to therapy activity!)

⚽️ Playing soccer – she’s even on a Division 2 team!

🧀 Eating all the cheese (every type and variation!)

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Spending time with her husband and 3 kids

Fun fact: Hannah is left-handed, loves baking fresh bread, and her perfect lazy day includes running, baking, and watching Disney movies with her kids 🍞

Next time you see Hannah at Mosaic, you might just find her with a deck of Uno cards in hand and a big smile ready to share.

When Daniel first joined Mosaic at just 2 years old, his determination was already shining through.

With the love of his family, the support of his therapy team, and plenty of his own hard work, Daniel made the transition into mainstream kindergarten (a huge milestone!) 🎉

Fast forward a year, and Daniel has reached another inspiring achievement. He entered his school’s public speaking contest, bravely stood in front of his entire school, and delivered a speech on “What if dinosaurs existed today?” 🦕🥪 (featuring a hilarious Vegemite sandwich joke).

He won his first round, advanced to the finals, and proudly finished as runner-up. More importantly, Daniel showed courage, joy, and resilience every step of the way.

When we asked him what the best part was, he said:

💬 “That everyone was proud of me, even though I didn’t win.”

Daniel, we are so proud of you. Thank you for showing us all that bravery isn’t about winning; it’s about trying, learning, and shining in your own way. 🌟

Let's Talk About Paracetamol and Autism 🔬

Recent media statements have caused understandable worry about using Paracetamol (Tylenol) during pregnancy and its potential link to autism. It is essential to look at the robust science.

Here is what leading medical regulators and scientists worldwide have confirmed:

- Paracetamol and Autism: No evidence supports a causal link. The most rigorous study on this topic, a large-scale 2024 analysis of 2.4 million Swedish children that compared exposed children with their own siblings, found no evidence of an increased risk of autism when familial and genetic factors were accounted for.

- Confounding Factor: Associations found in studies are likely due to "confounding factors," meaning it's the underlying reason the mother took the paracetamol (like a severe infection or chronic pain) that may influence development, not the drug itself.

- Safety Reaffirmed: Australian and UK medical regulators (TGA, MHRA) have reaffirmed existing guidelines. Paracetamol remains the recommended first-choice treatment for pain and fever during pregnancy when used as directed. Untreated fever and severe pain can pose risks to the unborn baby.

Please trust established medical advice. Statements linking everyday substances to autism without evidence are harmful. They create fear and stigma while distracting from the vital work of supporting autistic children.

At MEI, we stand by evidence-based care and the neurodiversity movement. If you have questions about any medication, always speak to your GP or healthcare professional.

💬 We’d love to hear from you: what questions do you have about neurodiversity? Let’s start the conversation together.

Why early support matters 🌱

Every three years, the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) shows us how children are developing in their first year of school.

This year’s results? 📊
✨ Only 52.9% of children were “on track” (down from 54.8% in 2021).
✨ 23.5% were vulnerable in at least one area.
✨ 12.5% were vulnerable in two or more, the highest since the census began.

The biggest challenges?
💙 Social skills
💙 Emotional wellbeing

Children in disadvantaged communities are most affected. And the pandemic has left lasting impacts on kids born from 2018 to 2019.

So what does this mean?

At the same time as these results, NDIS reforms propose moving many autistic children into “mainstream” supports. But the AEDC shows these settings are already stretched thin.

✨ Early support changes lives. It helps children build communication, confidence, and skills early on which reduces the need for more intensive support later in life.

At Mosaic, we believe every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported in their earliest years. Because what happens now can shape a lifetime 💙

Say hello to Amy 👋

Our amazing Administration Officer (and current accounts manager fill-in while on mat leave)!

Amy is the first friendly voice many of our families hear (the one making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes).

With a background in admin, customer service, and even a Cert III in Childcare, she brings incredible organisation and warmth to every interaction.

✨ What Amy loves most about Mosaic:
“Alongside the people I work with, I love hearing about the goals the kiddos reach. There is nothing more exciting than hearing about a goal a child has knocked out of the park.”

When she’s not keeping Mosaic organised, Amy loves:
📚 Writing and researching Victorian-era history
📖 Collecting books and brooches (and being a self-confessed chocoholic 🍫)
🐾 Spending time with her cat, Hope - a fluffy, long girl with a possum tail and a big personality!

Fun fact: Amy’s favourite movies are the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and if she could have any superpower, she’d choose time travel (we’d happily go on that adventure with her!).

Next time you call Mosaic, it might just be Amy on the other end… Ready to make your day a little easier.

ABA often comes with a lot of misconceptions.

You may have heard worries like:
⚡ It’s all flashcards and drills
⚡ It focuses on stopping behaviours for others’ comfort
⚡ It ignores the child’s feelings.

But here’s the truth about how ABA looks at Mosaic today:
🌱 It’s play-based, joyful, and child-led
💛 It’s trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming
🧩 When we support behaviour, it’s about helping children build skills and independence, not about compliance
😊 Sessions focus on being “happy, relaxed, engaged,” if cues say otherwise, we adapt

ABA should never be about changing a child to fit the world. It’s about creating safe, supportive environments where they can thrive as themselves.
