KidsXpress Statement on the Bondi Beach Attack: December 15, 2025
KidsXpress is deeply saddened by the tragic and violent attack at Bondi Beach. Our hearts are with those who have lost their lives, including a 10-year old child, and with everyone who has been injured and affected as the situation continues to unfold.
We stand in solidarity with Australia’s Jewish community, and with all those who have been affected by this horrific act of violence. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, those who witnessed this violence and were present during the attack, and the first responders and individuals who acted with courage and care in the face of danger.
Events like this can have a profound emotional impact on children and young people, even when they were not directly involved or near the site. Children may feel frightened, confused, angry, or overwhelmed by what they see and hear, especially when the coverage is constant and details are repeated across news and social media.
As children attend school for the final week of the year, many may be carrying big feelings into the classroom and playground. Some will want to talk about what happened, while others may express distress through changes in mood, behaviour, or concentration. These responses can be a normal reaction to fear, uncertainty, and grief.
At KidsXpress, we know children need safe, calm, and trusted adults to help them navigate frightening events, to reassure them of their safety, and to reinforce that violence is the result of choices made by individuals - not whole communities or groups.
Attached is our guide for parents, carers and educators, with practical, age-appropriate suggestions for how to talk with children about difficult and distressing events in ways that are reassuring and inclusive.
We encourage everyone to meet children with steadiness and care, to make space for their questions, listen without rushing to fix, offer simple reassurance, and help them understand what they may be hearing in ways that suit their age and temperament.
