After reviewing 500 research papers and listening to nearly 800 Autistic people and those who support Autistic students, Autism CRC has developed the Draft National Guidance for best practice in inclusive education for Autistic students.

Now, they’re inviting public feedback before it’s finalised.

This is a real opportunity to help shape what inclusive education looks like across the country - informed by evidence, lived experience, and the voices of school communities.

Who can participate?
Anyone aged 18 or over who:
• is a parent, caregiver or family member of an Autistic child, teen or adult
• works in education such as a teacher, school leader, aide or specialist
• is an allied health professional supporting Autistic students
• is an Autistic adult who attended school
• works in an organisation supporting Autistic people or inclusive education

📝 Have your say before the consultation closes, Sunday 15 March, 11:59pm AEST (QLD time) 👉 LINK IN BIO (autismcrc.com.au/national-guidance-inclusive-education/draft-consultation)

Vale Lee Casuscelli

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former colleague, Lee Casuscelli.

Lee tragically lost her life on Saturday following a road incident in Camden, NSW.

Lee was a respected and much-loved leader who made a significant contribution across Positive Partnerships and Aspect Education. She served as Principal of Aspect Western Sydney School and Aspect Macarthur School, and later as part of our Education Leadership team.

She led with integrity, expertise and genuine care. Lee was dedicated to creating school communities where autistic students could thrive and where staff felt supported and confident in their roles. She mentored generously and strengthened the people around her, leaving a lasting impact on our schools and culture.

For those who had the privilege of working alongside her, this loss is profound. She will be remembered with great respect and warmth across the Aspect community.

Our thoughts are with Lee’s family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time. 💜

Well done to Q***r Sporting Alliance for delivering such a welcoming and inclusive National Sports Tournament in January!

The tournament took place at Narrandjeri Stadium in Thornbury and is Australia’s largest LGBTIQA+ basketball and netball event 🏀🏐. Focused on community and inclusion, it expanded in 2026 to include futsal and pickleball social sessions. ⚽🎾

Our Autism Friendly team was proud to partner with QSA to help make the event more accessible and comfortable for everyone. Together, we:
📃 Created a Visual Story with clear expectations, maps and check-in guidance
🌿 Designed and delivered a Quiet Space with sensory tools and private areas
🖐 Hosted a stall with fidgets and sensory supports for players and supporters

Feedback from the community was overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing how valuable the Quiet Space, pre-event information and Visual Story were to their overall experience.

Congratulations to the Q***r Sporting Alliance team for continuing to lead the way in inclusive sport. 🙌

“Inclusion means everyone has a right to learning and access to opportunities.” 💬

Eva from Big Picture Learning Australia describes inclusion as every person having the right to access learning, sport and community life, with education built around their interests, strengths and goals.
Eva also highlights the importance of stronger collaboration between policy and practice, and more public conversation about inclusive learning.

The Australian Government has released the Thriving Kids foundational supports model – a major shift in how early supports for young children are designed and delivered.

Aspect notes the release of the Thriving Kids model as a significant step towards reshaping early supports for children with developmental delay or disability.

While we support the intent and principles underpinning the model, we look forward to further detail on how these principles will be operationalised in practice, including program design, delivery mechanisms and accountability arrangements.

Many Autistic people and families face challenges when using services such as healthcare, transport, employment services, shops, restaurants, education and community activities. At the moment, there is no national information that shows how common these challenges are or how they affect wellbeing.

A new study led by the Aspect Research Centre for Autism Practice (ARCAP) is exploring the accessibility of services and places for Autistic people in Australia.

This research aims to inform future policies, services and practices so everyday environments better support Autistic people and their families.

You are welcome to take part in this research if:
• are an Autistic adult (formally or self-identified), or
• are a parent or caregiver of an Autistic person (of any age)
• live in Australia.

You will complete an anonymous 10–30 minute online survey about your experiences with services and community settings in the past 12 months.
As a thank you, we will donate $2AUD to your choice of four charities when you complete the survey.
