Acupuncture provides a drug-free pain relief option, effectively treats a wide range of acute and chronic ailments, treats the underlying cause of disease and illness as well as the symptoms, provides a wholistic approach to the treatment of disease and illness, linking body, mind and emotions, assists in the prevention against disease and illness as well as the maintenance of general well-being.

The initial Acupuncture appointment may take up to 60 minutes and includes an in-depth diagnosis from a Chinese medicine perspective plus other diagnosis such as muscle testing or range of motion testing. Other manual techniques may also be used such as cupping, Gua Sha, massage or moxibustion. During the session, there will be a discussion of different types of exercises, lifestyle or dietary advice which can assist with the presenting condition. If herbal medicine is advised, this will be discussed. Subsequent appointments usually take about a half-hour to forty-five minutes.

Gua sha is a non-invasive technique that can be performed in the clinical setting or at home. It involves rubbing the skin with an implement which increases blood circulation at that localised area. Gua Sha is part of a myofascial technique, breaking up muscle adhesions and improving range of motion. It is typically used for conditions of pain relief but can also be used for facial rejuvenation.

In our clinic, we use moxa or moxibustion as a stick or cone form.

The moxa is gently heated near or on the skin on particular acupoints on the body. The radiating heat stimulates to increase heat or as known in Traditional Chinese Medicine, increase the Yang or warm the internal cold.

Moxibustion or heat therapy is another type of Traditional Chinese Medicine used to stimulate and improve the flow of Qi.

Tui Na is a Chinese form of massage which includes the lifting, pushing and rolling techniques. Tui Na is more than a therapeutic massage, but an active style of massage where the patient can either lie down or sit on a chair.

The limbs can be moved whilst massaging for better range of motion. There may be the inclusion of cupping therapy or Gua Sha therapy at the same time.
