Close the Gap Day

Yesterday, 19 March marked National Close the Gap Day, a campaign that launched after the release of the Social Justice Report which emphasised health as a human right. You can read more about the campaign here: https://closethegap.org.au/

In the 2008 National Apology, PM Kevin Rudd declared the Australian government would attempt to bridge the gap between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australian health, education and opportunity.

Today, First Nations people’s life expectancy is shorter, infant mortality rates are higher and disease burden is greater. Few of the government Closing the Gap targets are on track to reduce inequality. You can read more about the Closing the Gap agreement here: https://www.closingthegap.gov.au/

Today, 3 March, is World Hearing Day. This year’s theme, “From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children,” serves as a crucial reminder to take care of our hearing health, no matter your age.

Hearing loss is often gradual, making it easy to ignore and can start early. However, taking proactive steps—such as scheduling a hearing check and using protective gear in loud environments - can make a significant difference.

We encourage you to:

Get a regular hearing check-up for you and your family

Protect your ears from loud noises (ear plugs at that next concert!)

Support colleagues who are hard of hearing

Let’s change the mindset that hearing care is only for when problems arise. Take care of your hearing today.

Sunday 1 March was International Wheelchair Day. It’s a day to celebrate the incredible, positive impact that wheelchairs have on millions of lives worldwide. A wheelchair is a tool for freedom, independence, dignity and opportunity. We honour all wheelchair users and applaud the work of those who help make our world more accessible and inclusive.

Our residents have been busy crafting these beautiful hearts to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Each one is as unique and special as the person who made it. We’ve spent Valentine's Day sharing stories, treats, and plenty of smiles.

Blooming with Creativity 🌻

There’s something so therapeutic about working with charcoal. Our residents focused on light and shadow to bring these sunflowers to life. It was an afternoon filled with focused concentration, great conversation, and a lot of blackened fingertips!

☕🌸 High Tea at Lakeview 🌸☕
Residents enjoyed a delightful High Tea at Lakeview, complete with tea, freshly baked scones served with jam and cream. It was a wonderful social afternoon filled with conversation, laughter, and connection. A lovely opportunity for everyone to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
