He’s done it again! Our Mountain Pocket Rocket Marcus placed 2nd 1500m, 3rd 800m at the Regional Championships and then backed it up by coming 9th in the State for 1500m at the Queensland Representative School Sport Track & Field Championships. Take a bow Marcus!

Marcus ‘The Mountain Pocket Rocket’ is back from the Australian Schools Cross Country Championships which was recently held in Canberra. He finished 22nd out of more than 40 competitors in his age group and his team placed 4th in the relays.

A simply amazing result! Congratulations Marcus! What a little champion you are!

Amara is a Remedial Massage Therapist with over fifteen years of experience. She has studied both in Australia and abroad, in the USA and Thailand. Amara enjoys caring for a varied clientele and has previously worked alongside physiotherapists and other health professionals in clinical settings. Her clients include however, are not limited to;

Whether you are a regular weekend fairway bandit or have never held a club in your life you can suffer from Golfer's Elbow!

Golfer's Elbow or Medial Epicondylitis is a condition that causes pain where the tendons of the forearm muscles attach to the bony bump on the inside of your elbow. The pain may also spread into the forearm and wrist. The condition is similar to tennis elbow, although that causes pain on the outside of the elbow.

Golfer's Elbow is caused by repetitive stress, often with forceful wrist and finger motions, so although it is commonly associated with the game of golf, it can also be a problem for people in trades where gripping is involved eg. carpentry and painting. Due to tendon degeneration the elbow may feel stiff and painful and the hand and wrist may feel weak. Males and females are equally affected and the most common age of onset is between the ages of 35 and 50.

Don't throw your clubs into the water hazard just yet, though, because Gary Brooks at Tamborine Mt Physiotherapy has a treatment regime for Golfer's Elbow that will save your elbow and your handicap! Using a combination of rest ( yes, you may have to! ), ice, stretches, gentle massage and strengthening exercises he will work to reduce the pain of the elbow and strengthen the tendons and muscles of your forearm.

We all know about the healing and rejuvenating benefits of massage on the body’s Muscular System but did you know about the positive physiological effects of massage on other Systems of the body? You may be surprised to know that massage;

- Aids the Circulatory System by improving general circulation as blood passes more rapidly through tissue being massaged. Massage dilates blood vessels which can assist in decreasing blood pressure.

- Aids the Digestive System by stimulating digestive organs and peristalsis which improves digestion and can increase the absorption of fat by the small intestines.
- Aids the Endocrine System by increasing general circulation and transportation of hormones.

- Aids the Integumentary System by sending messages to the brain through sensory receptors in the skin to relax the entire body. Through this system trust is established if healing is to take place both physically and psychologically.

- Aids the Lymphatic System by assisting the flow of lymph throughout the body, thereby assisting the immune system to prevent disease. In chronic inflammatory conditions in which fibrosis (scar tissue) is sure to advance if tissue fluid and lymph remain stagnant, massage is important in moving lymph and fluid.

- Aids the Nervous System by relaxing or stimulating nerves depending upon the type of treatment. It has a biofeedback effect, giving the mind more information as to where tension is being held in the body. Massage releases spasms of tissue surrounding the spinal cord which can take the strain off nerves.

- Aids the Respiratory System by loosening the intercostal muscles (the muscles between the ribs) and freeing the rib cage to allow greater chest expansion, thereby deeper breathing and thus increased oxygen to all cells. Massage encourages deeper breathing and a more complete breath through relaxation.

- Aids the Skeletal System by improving muscular balance and thus skeleton alignment (contracted muscles can pull bones out of alignment). Massage can prevent adhesions from forming and can break down adhesions. These adhesions can form between ligaments and bones, can alter a joint and limit range of motion.
