Cardio VS strength training 🏃🏻‍♀️🏋🏻‍♀️

What is better for fat loss?

CARDIO-burns more calories whilst you’re doing it.

STRENGTH training- burns more calories long after you’ve left the gym.

Here’s why 👇

When you lift weights, you create tiny tears in your muscle fibres. Your body spends the next 24-48 hours repairing & building them. The energy it takes your body to ‘repair’, keeps your metabolism elevated meaning you’re burning more energy (calories) even while you rest. In saying that, if those weights aren’t progressive, you’re doing yourself a disservice & you won’t be getting the same benefits or results. Strength training should be hard no matter what level you’re at. It won’t get any easier if you don’t start.

Cardio has its place. It is required for heart health & energy burn but if your goal is fat loss that lasts & you’re not strength training, you need to start!

A combo of both with a focus on consistency & progression be it-more sessions, moving faster, more weights, more reps etc, is going to work best IF you get on top of your nutrition too!

When it comes to fat loss, obviously any form of movement is beneficial, especially when you have a lot to lose for your health alone.

Change doesn’t come from doing the same thing over & over again. Change doesn’t come from being comfortable. If nothing is changing, get onto it now to save wasting more time!

Don’t skip it or it’ll bite you in the 🍑 before the day is done…

If you skip breakfast, live on caffeine, think you’re saving your calories to binge later on in the day (because that’s your norm) or you’re not hungry in the morning (due to said previous PM binge), we need to chat.

The majority of my clients didn’t eat breakfast. They ALL do now & it’s big! It sets up their day & it improves ALL the things preventing them from progressing & reaching their goals! Ask them…

Is it money or is that another excuse?

These people kept going even on the hard days.
They have had set-backs.
They have had illness.
They have had events & celebrations.
They have had days that didn’t go to plan.
They kept going.

Check out the length of time it’s taken some of these people to get to where they are today…
They didn’t get here overnight.

Reminder- No one is comparable. Male, female, age, height, starting weight, fitness level, type of training, muscle mass, so much comes into play however one thing these people have done is kept going, regardless of the scale.

Josie- 38.5 kgs! 9.5 mths. Higher cals for the past 7 weeks & pre-workout high carb meal! There has been illness & time away from home, there has also been strength & fitness gains. If you had seen Josie before, you wouldn’t recognise her now! She tried it all! You name it, she’s tried it. She tried the rest & then tried the best! She found what works! Real food!

Elizabeth- 16.7 kgs! Almost 7 months. There has been many weekends off plan, sickness, injury & life! The physical & mental changes are amazing! Liz has changed her life with food! No more fads! Her health has done a complete 180! Ceased & reduced medications! Multiple new wardrobes!

Vicki- 10.1 kgs in 4.5 months! There’s been some tough weeks but she has never given up! The past month there has been so much more consistency in movement! Vicki is definitely dedicated & wants to reach her goals! She eats breakfast & sleeps better!

Natalie - 6.05 kgs! 30 cms off the mid-section! 11 weeks! Running again! Steps through the roof! Nat is only a very small person, these losses are huge for her size!

Melissa- 8.8 kgs lost & creeping closer every week to her post-partum goals. Slow & steady progress whilst making sure she is fueling herself & her baby right!

It can work, if you know how…it can also be your undoing.

If you are ‘tracking’ calories & nothing is changing, ask yourself the following questions….

-have you ever been taught how to ‘track’ correctly?
-what are you actually tracking?
-are you consistent or are you only tracking parts of your day/week?
-are you tracking everything that has a calorie attached to it including cooking oils & condiments?
-are you weighing your foods?
-do you track macros too?

If the answer is no to all or any of these, stop tracking & educate yourself first.

Tracking loosely can be used as a guide for a coach 🙋🏻‍♀️ to review your diet & the changes that need to be made but outside of that, you’re only guessing.

Everyone can choose entries & make the numbers look good.

If it’s not right, it’s not right…

I’d rather wear gloves to eat this meal & risk frost bite than miss out.

I was craving chocolate icecream for breakfast yesterday so that’s exactly (?) what I had…

-sweet potato
-pumpkin
-blueberries
-banana
-cauliflower
-papaya
-cacao
-protein

This meal will never get old.

The prep for this is the hard part however it’s only the cooking of the veges & it’s beyond worth it. I roast them in bulk & have enough frozen for so many smoothies ready to go! I don’t have to prep the ingredients very often (depending on how many I eat 🙊)

I ask my clients what their goals are & I often hear ‘I want to look ‘toned’, ‘I eat healthy but nothing is changing’, ‘I don’t eat much’, ‘I’m always hungry, crave sugar every afternoon & have no energy’, just to name a few…

You’re not alone…

‘Toned’ looks different for everyone however it doesn’t come from endless hours of cardio & a diet consisting of 1200 cals, no carbs, meal replacement shakes, liquid diets, fasting, skipping breakfast, keto & being scared of lifting weights because they will make you ‘bulky’.

If you after that ‘toned’ look, you need to build the muscle up underneath & strip body fat to a low enough level to uncover your work.

If you are stuck in a cycle of eating ‘healthy’, not eating much, moving from fad to fad, doing the same thing over & over, winging it in the gym & have hit a plateau, can’t push yourself or need to be educated because social media & society have messed up your mind, you need my help!
