Casual tutor for a non-award Introduction to Interpreting course

The School of Humanities and Languages at UNSW Sydney is conducting a 120-hour NAATI CPI exam preparation course which will consist of lectures and tutorials delivered online and face-to-face at our Sydney (Kensington) campus.

We are seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified Interpreters to be trained as tutors in the following languages:
• Filipino
• Greek
• Hungarian
• Italian
• Macedonian
• Malay
• Nepali
• Portuguese
• Serbian
• Thai
• Turkish
• Vietnamese
Essential qualifications and requirements:
• NAATI Certified Interpreter or NAATI Certified Provisional Interpreter
• Professional interpreting experience
• Ability to use Zoom
• Based in Sydney
Desired criteria:
• Teaching experience
Job description:

The successful applicants will be required to undertake several hours of online training during the month of March via Zoom. The teaching will take place during the months of April and May for a total of 40 hours (20 hrs via Zoom and 20 hrs on the UNSW Sydney Kensington campus – subject to COVID Page 2 restrictions).

The tutorials will be language specific and will cover practical skills development in dialogue interpreting and sight translation to prepare candidates to sit for the NAATI CPI exam.

Tutors will be required to sign a contract for 40 hrs of teaching at the standard tutorial hourly pay rate of $161.32 (without PhD) or $191.00 (with PhD) which includes 2 hours of associated working/preparation time and 1 hour of delivery. Tutors will be paid to undertake the training at the ‘other duties’ rate of $53.75 (without PhD) or $63.66 (with PhD) per hour.

The Victoria Government, through the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH), has launched a scholarship program to provide opportunities to the significant proportion of T&I practitioners in Victoria who have not had the opportunity to complete formal Translating & Interpreting training.

The 'Ethics Training Scholarship for Interpreters and Translators' will permit successful applicants to receive Ethics training designed and delivered by expert T&I academics.

The training will be provided through an online self-paced course titled 'Ethics and Professionalism for Interpreters and Translators' which focuses on the development and application of interpreters’ and translators' knowledge, and application of the AUSIT Code of Ethics. This course is provided by Conversations, the in-house Training and Professional Development division of All Graduates: Interpreting & Translating.

Who can apply?

This scholarship is only available to Victorian based Interpreters and Translators.

The scholarship is offered for interpreters and translators with NAATI Recognised Practicing Interpreter/Translator and Certified Provisional Interpreter credentials as well as Unaccredited practitioners in the following languages:
