✨ Big changes are coming for families with kids on the NDIS ✨
The government has announced a new program called “Thriving Kids”.
👧🧒 What it means:
• From 2027, children with mild to moderate autism or developmental delays may no longer get support through the NDIS.
• Instead, they’ll be supported through a new system called Thriving Kids.
💡 The idea is that help will come through places you already know and use – like schools, GPs, and child health services – instead of the NDIS.
💰 The government has set aside $2 billion for this change, with states expected to chip in too.
📊 Why?
• Right now, almost half of all people on the NDIS are kids, and most new plans are for children with autism or developmental delay.
• The government says the NDIS can’t keep growing this fast, so they want a new system that gives families support earlier and in the community.
📌 Important:
• Children with more significant needs will still be able to get the NDIS.
• Kids already in the NDIS won’t just be “kicked out” overnight – there’ll be reassessments and transition support.
⸻
👉 Parents, this means if your child has milder support needs, you may be linked to Thriving Kids instead of NDIS in the future.
❤️ The goal (according to the government) is to get families help sooner, in everyday places, without long waits for an NDIS plan.
