Attention Narrabri!

Starting this week, we're excited to welcome everyone back to our popular Aboriginal health programs, including the walking group, mixed gym sessions and the elders gym group. These groups are a great way to stay active, connect with others in the community and support your overall wellbeing, especially during the cooler months.

Whether you're looking to kickstart your wellness journey, or just keen for a yarn and some light exercise, there's something for everyone.

If you're interested in coming along, give our Narrabri office a call on (02) 6792 5514 and have a yarn with Jenna-Lee or Tamika.

HealthWISE is proud to be part of the Regional Primary Health Collective — a powerful collaboration of like-minded organisations working together to strengthen primary care across our regions.

We’re privileged to contribute to this united effort, ensuring the best possible health and wellbeing outcomes for the communities we serve.

At Hunter Primary Care, we’re proud to stand alongside other leading not-for-profit primary healthcare organisations, working together to turn our shared vision into action. We recently had the privilege of hosting the latest meeting of the Regional Primary Health Collective, to collaborate on the challenges and opportunities we share.
Together, we’re committed to:
✔ Recognising the unique needs and strengths of our communities
✔ Addressing the social and environmental factors that shape health outcomes
✔ Delivering high-quality, integrated care
✔ Empowering people to live well through equitable access to health and wellbeing.
Collaboration like this strengthens our sector—and the communities we serve. 💙

National Diabetes Week 2025 💙
At HealthWISE, we’re proud to support Diabetes Australia in shining a light on prevention — because it matters at every stage of the journey.

Type 2 diabetes can often be prevented, and it’s more achievable than you might think. Up to 58% of cases can be delayed or prevented with simple lifestyle changes.

For those already living with diabetes, staying connected with your healthcare team is key to managing your health with confidence.

If you live in Narrabri or Moree, our Diabetes Shared Care program may be able to support you. We’ll work alongside your GP and care team to help you follow your care plan and get the most from your health services.

Your team might include:
✔️ Care Manager
✔️ General Practitioner or Practice Nurse
✔️ Aboriginal Health Worker
✔️ Diabetes Educator
✔️ Dietitian
✔️ Podiatrist
✔️ Exercise Physiologist
✔️ Endocrinologist
✔️ Optometrist/Ophthalmologist
✔️ Lymphoedema Physiotherapist

Who can access it?
Anyone in the Narrabri or Moree LGAs with Type 1, Type 2 or Latent Onset Diabetes in Adults (LADA).

💬 Speak to your GP for a referral or call us on (02) 6752 7196 to find out more.

This program is supported by the Hunter New England and Central Coast Primary Health Network.

In light of NAIDOC Week, we recently caught up for a yarn with Sarah, Vicki and Sally from our Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation partner, HealthWISE. 💬

With support from a 2024 grant, HealthWISE kicked off a pilot program placing Aboriginal Health Workers in local pharmacies. 🩺

The goal? Making health care more accessible, relatable, and culturally safe for First Nations communities in the New England region. 📍

Whether it’s helping with medication, providing health care or simply offering a listening ear, the impact is real, and its truly inspiring to see. ✨
