HealthWISE HealthWISE supports community health at all stages, from child speech pathology to healthy ageing.

We provide primary and allied health services where there are shortages or gaps and provide mental health services across the regions. Our staff also assist in coordinating specialist services where there are none or a specific need. We are also continually developing and providing Aboriginal health programs and services. We strive to change the mindset concerning health by improving access to opportunities to become healthy for those in our service area. We recognise the social determinants of health and the unique characteristics of our region. We believe every person can make choices that result in a healthier self – our purpose is to make those choices easier.

This week we are proud to spotlight our 2026 Active Champions Fund recipients, delivered in partnership with the Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS).

Meet Molly Stokeld!

The Tamworth basketballer is aiming for selection in the NSW U16 State Team and the Basketball NSW State Performance Program as she continues to rise through representative ranks.

Training multiple times each week and competing across the state, Molly is working towards her dream of playing professionally and representing Australia at the Olympics.

She is also a dedicated coach and referee for Aussie Hoops and Mini Hoops, giving back to younger players in her community.

The Active Champions Fund will support her travel, training and development as she continues her journey.

This week we are celebrating our remarkable 2026 Active Champions Fund recipients, supported in partnership with Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS).

Meet Luke Whitty!

A member of the Australian U16 national squad, Luke recently won gold with the NSW U18s and silver with the U16s at the Indoor National Championships.

He is pursuing selection in the NSW U18 team and the Australian U18 Futures Squad, with the ultimate goal of representing Australia on the world stage.

Luke says the fund will help reduce the financial pressure on his family as he balances school, gym work, skills training, team commitments and travel.

For Luke, this is about more than medals. It is about proving that regional kids can achieve anything!

As excitement builds towards Brisbane 2032, HealthWISE and the Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS) are backing regional athletes with big dreams.

Today we introduce Isabella Henderson!

The Scone rower is entering her final year at The Armidale School with her sights set on Head of the River success and a podium finish at the Australian Rowing Championships.

She is also aiming for selection in the Australian team for the 2026 World Rowing Junior Championships in Bulgaria.

A three time Citizenship Award winner and recognised for her leadership and courage, Isabella brings character and commitment to everything she does.

She has already used grant funds to purchase her new boat, ‘Bubbles’, and says the support will cover essential training, travel and competition costs.

Her dream is clear: to represent Australia at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

This week, we are shining a light on our incredible 2026 Active Champions Fund recipients.

In partnership with Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS), HealthWISE is proud to support five outstanding New England North West athletes as they pursue their sporting dreams.

Today we introduce Luke Schmude!

An Armidale hockey player with national experience already under his belt, Luke is striving for another year in the U18 Australian Futures Squad and selection in the NSW U21 outdoor team. In January, he helped the NSW U18s secure gold at the Indoor National Championships.

Luke is more than an athlete. He is also a coach and umpire for local players and was named Young Official of the Year at the 2025 NSW Community Sports Awards.

His ultimate goal? To wear the green and gold as a Kookaburra on the world stage!

The Active Champions Fund will help ease the costs of training, travel and international competition as he works towards that dream.

In partnership with the Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS), HealthWISE is proud to support five outstanding young athletes through the 2026 Active Champions Fund.

Today we celebrate Charlotte Williams!

From Warrah Ridge in the Liverpool Plains, Charlotte is a dual talent in hockey and athletics. A member of the NSW state hockey squad and recently selected as a shadow for the U16 team, she is also preparing to compete in discus at the Australian Junior Championships.

She is striving for NSW U18 hockey selection while continuing to excel in athletics, and dreams of representing Australia at the Commonwealth Games and the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.

The grant will support coaching, competition travel and new equipment as she continues to push her limits.

Congratulations to Warialda nursing student Jessica-Lea McDougall and Moree psychology student Georgia Clissold, who have each received $10,000 scholarships to support their studies and future careers in rural and regional health.

This special celebration marked 20 years of the Dr William Hunter Scholarship and 10 years of the Healthy Communities Scholarship, proudly supported by Barwon Health Alliance, the Gwydir Valley Cotton Growers Association, and many generous local community groups and individuals.

These scholarships play a vital role in supporting local students to return home with the skills and experience needed to strengthen health services across our region.

In addition to our clinical services, we are focused on helping our communities and individuals take greater responsibility for their health outcomes through health literacy and preventative health programs and partnerships.
