Please join us as we welcome Dr Haroon Thawfeek to Peel Health Care.
Dr Thawfeek is passionate about general practice, particularly chronic disease management, musculoskeletal health, acute care, paediatrics and geriatrics. What he enjoys most is building long-term relationships with patients — getting to know them, their families and their life stories. After his very first hospital rotation over a decade ago, he knew he wanted to become a GP, and he has spent most of his career in general practice since. Helping people navigate their health challenges and seeing their progress over time is what he finds most rewarding.
Outside the clinic, Dr Thawfeek is a long‑time gym goer, loves taking long drives through Australia’s wide‑open landscapes, and enjoys simple family moments — relaxing on the lounge with his wife while the kids play nearby.
He and his wife recently moved to Tamworth with their kids, and they’ve quickly fallen in love with the lifestyle — open spaces, great schools, beautiful parks, and the joy of having a big backyard for the little ones to run around in. Tamworth’s welcoming community spirit has already made it feel like home.
We asked Dr Thawfeek some very important questions. Check out his responses below:
Coffee or tea?
Coffee. All day long. Probably more coffee than I should be drinking!
Early bird or night owl?
Definitely a night owl. Sometimes I wonder why the world decided that we should work during the day and sleep at night. I might have designed that system differently!
If you weren’t doing your current job, what would you be doing instead?
If I weren’t a doctor, I think I’d still be doing something in the service sector — helping people one by one and trying to make a positive difference in someone’s life each day.
What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I really enjoy philosophy and psychology — why people do the things they do and how they think about the world. Unfortunately, not many people are as enthusiastic about those conversations… including my wife!
Favourite thing about Peel Health Care so far?
The support network. There’s always someone you can ask for help. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and always smiling. I also love the clean and spacious environment, especially the consultation rooms. The management, reception team, and nurses are fantastic — it’s amazing how many people work together behind the scenes to make a GP practice run smoothly.
