Did you know there’s a simple guideline hearing professionals use to identify when someone might benefit from a cochlear implant assessment?

It’s called the 60/60 rule.

If hearing levels are 60 dB or worse and speech understanding is 60% or less it may be time to explore other options.

A referral simply opens the door to more information and support. If you think this might apply to you, a conversation with your clinician is a great place to start.

Here’s a great reminder of why regular maintenance is so important for your hearing aids.

This image shows a test called Live Speech Mapping, completed before and after a clean and check on a hearing aid. A tiny microphone sits in your ear canal during the test, creating a graph that shows the sound your hearing aids are actually producing.

🔸 Top left graph: The solid purple line shows how the hearing aid was performing when it first came in. The target line shows where the sound level should be.

🔸 Bottom right graph: After a service, simply cleaning the hearing aid and changing a blocked wax filter. The solid purple line shows a clear improvement in performance.

Even small issues can affect how well your hearing aids work, such as:

🔸 Wax blockages in the ear or the hearing aid
🔸 Ill-fitting earpieces
🔸 Faulty or worn parts
🔸 Changes in your hearing

These can all reduce how well your hearing aids perform, sometimes without you even realising it.

We recommend check-ups at least every 12 months to keep everything working at its best. But if you feel your hearing aids aren’t performing as well as they should, chances are they aren’t!

Your first step is to pop in and see our friendly reception staff in our Tamworth office, or book an aid check when we visit one of our travelling clinic sites. Our team can assess your devices and guide you on the next steps.
