VALE TRENT JENNISON (1963 – 2025)
CEO of Valley Industries from 2011 – 2022

Valley Industries is mourning the loss, and celebrating the life, of Trent Jennison, our CEO from 2011 – 2022. Trent died peacefully at home on Thursday, surrounded by family after a year battling illness.

Trent’s passing leaves a giant hole in the Taree community and at Valley. Trent joined us in 2011 after running the Mayo Private Hospital for many years. His impact was immediate as he attacked the task of growing opportunities to employ people with a disability. Trent had boundless energy, enthusiasm and confidence as he took on challenges most shy away from.

Amongst his many achievements is the acquisition of a small community launderette and growing it into the largest commercial laundry in the region employing 20 people with a disability. Also, the purchase of Intalink Therapy Solutions and the building in Macquarie St to provide allied health services to people with a disability. The courage to commence group home supports upon the advent of the NDIS afforded many people the option to live independently for the first time in their lives.

Valley Industries’ revenue grew from $3m to $36m during Trent’s tenure and it now employs over 500 people. It is an immense achievement however you measure it.

Beyond the growth and business acumen, it was personally where Trent made the most impact and he had a genuine affection for people with a disability. It would be hard to count the number of staff and friends Trent has helped in their personal lives or in their career. He was quick to help make a professional introduction or get you booked into see a specialist. He was like the mayor and Taree owes him a lot.

Our thoughts are with Marie, Elizabeth, Emma and Andrew – and our job now is to celebrate Trent’s life and contribution in a manner which matches the impact he had on us.

One Month On – Some Things to Remember

It’s been a month since the devastating floods hit Taree and the wider NSW Mid North Coast and many other parts along the East Coast. As the mud has dried and life moves on for some, I’ve noticed a growing divide—two very different experiences unfolding side by side in our community.

There are those of us who were deeply impacted—who lost everything or nearly everything, whose homes were damaged or destroyed, whose lives have been turned upside down. Many of us are still feeling raw, overwhelmed, and in shock. Some of us are angry or frustrated, feeling unseen, struggling to comprehend how life can just go on when nothing is the same for us anymore.

And then there are others who also lived through the floods—but from a different vantage point. Maybe your home was spared, or the damage was minor. Life might have already returned to “normal.” Yes, you were affected—you felt the collective loss, the disruption—but things have mostly settled again. The news cycle has moved on, and so perhaps, have you.

But for those still walking through the rubble—physically, emotionally, financially—this is far from over.

So, what can we do? How can we continue to support those in our community who are still struggling, not just now, but 1, 3, 6 months down the line?

Here’s what I found helpful when I was in the thick of it:

✹ Social connection. It made a difference when someone else reached out—invited me over for a meal, a chat, or just offered me a moment of normality. If you know someone flood-affected, don’t wait for them to ask. Take the lead. Be the one who invites.

✹ Offering choice. One simple, powerful question I appreciated: “Would you like to talk about it, or would you prefer we talk about something else?” That gave me space to notice what I needed most in the moment. Sometimes it was the relief of being witnessed in my pain. Other times, it was the comfort of talking about anything but the floods.

There’s no perfect thing to say or do—but showing up again and again matters. Small gestures make a big difference.

I’d love to hear from others—
💬 What did you find helpful?
💬 What have you done to support someone else?

Let’s keep the conversation (and the care) going—because for many, the flood recovery isn’t behind them. It’s still very much their day-to-day.
