AMA (NSW) Vice President Fred Betros is in The Daily Telegraph today highlighting the grim state of public hospitals in Western Sydney.

Dr Betros says Western Sydney is an area with a much higher disease burden than the rest of the city.

"We don’t have enough beds to do our elective operations because we’re too full with emergency department cases. This means we’re pushing for day-stay in cases where a night stay would be preferable because there are no beds," Dr Betros says.

All governments must step up to address Australia's public hospital logjam crisis.

Recent funding top-ups from the federal government are welcome, but a new National Health Reform Agreement is urgently needed.

All governments must prioritise coming to a new agreement as soon as possible after this year's federal election.
