'You have to have dark in order to show light, just like in life.'
Bob Ross
Bob was such a wise soul, so uplifting, inspiring and down to earth. I love how he speaks to darkness and light - it makes so much sense, especially when we have spent a little time in the dark (which all of us have and do from time to time). If there was only light or only darkness we would have no contrast in our paintings or in life. I have had a week or so of darkness as I was 'benched' by 'the lurgy'. It has been a waiting game, taking it day by day, to see when I felt called to come out to play again. Thank you for your patience and kind messages while I rested.
Thankfully the lurgy has left and now my energy levels are returning which feels wonderful. Our health really is everything!!! So a few things that I have been reminded of during this time, true for me - maybe not for all:
- our health is of utmost importance but every now and again it is normal to get sick, the rebuilding makes us stronger.
- wallowing in the darkness has some great benefits - helping us to process the mud before we ascend to the light, making our light that much brighter!
- being in the dark calls us to consider where we are directing our energy on planet earth - digging deep into the question of what is most important.....
- mostly the darkness teaches us to enjoy the light - have fun, play, be outside, get into the sunshine, out into the garden, touch the earth, feel the cold and the warm, open up to all of life.
Just as Bob suggests 'If you have light on light, you have nothing. If you have dark on dark, you have nothing. Just like in life. You gotta have a little sadness once in a while so you know when the good times come'.
And just like that the gifts of Bob and the darkness are enmeshed into the wisdoms of this human form. Each of us a living light that occasionally delves into the shadows so we can remember that life is a balancing act.
The heater is on and our practice now is to keep warm!
In appreciation of both the dark and the light.
With great love blessings, goodness & namaste
Amanda
