Where there is No Trust there is Control!

I heard this recently and it struck a chord.
Where we don’t trust we hold tightly, tightly to the thing we might lose. The reality is that whatever we have we could lose. What can we gain in the loss? What can we learn and how can we change and grow, what faith grows as we face difficulties and challenges? As we loosen our grip. Learn to let go and Let God. How much control do we need before we are out of control?

I heard this spin on an old saying recently. It has stayed with me. There are so many things we can be willing to do and change to take the steps to reach our goals of who we want to be in the world and how we want to be. What are your thoughts and beliefs around who you are and how this dream fits into how you view yourself? What is your self talk providing? Is it positive or self sabotaging? Is it talk that looks to the past or does it propel you towards the new preferred end result?
Being clear on what you want to achieve and distinguishing the steps along the way is a great start. How will you change the image of yourself to fit your updated identity so you can take action and arrive at your new destination?

What part will you bring forward today?
We all have different parts, we have the saying on one hand I feel this on the other…or one side of me says this and the other…
We are sometimes faced with choices, maybe anger or fear and at those times which part of you will lead? Will you set anger or fear aside and bring out a part of you that is more pragmatic, curious, thoughtful, insightful and inspiring?
You have these strengths within you also, and when we choose to lead with these parts we can bring growth and healing and deeper connections. Both for ourselves and others.

How’s your Mental Hygiene?

We spend time on our outer hygiene, it becomes an automatic pattern to take care of our cleanliness. So what about our mental hygiene?
Have you been mindful of your self talk lately? Do you speak to yourself and about yourself in ways that are kind and uplifting?
How much time do you spend on Social Media or watching and listening to information or entertainment that is messing with your nervous system or creating a dysfunctional understanding of the world and potentially creating friction in your relationships?
It’s good to take some time out to reconnect with yourself and to question your thoughts and actions, to be intentional with what you allow into your mind and what you allow to stay there for any length of time.
Practice Mental Hygiene so like our physical body, we automatically do what we need to do
to look after ourselves.

Moving Forward.

With Mothers Day behind us I had an interesting conversation with someone yesterday. Not all of us has had positive parenting experiences from our Mothers or Fathers. We can’t change the past. We can learn from it, and we can be mindful of creating a different experience for ourselves and our children and grandchildren. We can choose what we focus on, and it does help to focus on what you do want and what part you play in that.

Happy Mother’s Day

As Mother’s we can sometimes give ourselves a hard time for the things we could have done better, or differently.
Today is the day to Celebrate the things we have done well, with love, in wisdom and kindness with patience and self sacrifice.
Today hold space for yourself, remind yourself of who you are and the good things you have done and what you have given.

When we are talking with a friend, spouse, child or relative who is going through a difficult situation, there is a tendency to want to fix it for them. We can throw solutions at them rather than being caring as well as curious, and asking questions, allowing them to come up with their own creative ideas, which also offers them respect as intelligent humans to be able to work it out and take control of what they are able to in the situation. Sometimes the questions you ask may be the ones they have missed asking themselves?

The world has been changing around us significantly in the last few years. Some of us have been affected more than others by war, fires, floods, we have lost Loved ones, houses, jobs, health, and much of this is out of our control.
At times like these we can feel helpless, or we can ask ourselves what is within our control ?
We have gained significant strengths and resources over our lives. We have pushed against adversity and uncertainty throughout our lives in many areas. We have gained wisdom and continue to learn and grow and change within as the world is changing around us.
Remind yourself of the things you have overcome, what you have learned about yourself when you have risen to the occasion.
What changes you made in your thoughts and actions to get to where you wanted to be.
You can be alert and aware of what’s around you whilst using the wisdom and knowledge you have within to navigate challenges and create change.

I was watching a small child write their name recently and then ask if they could write mine.
It was so beautiful to watch the freedom this little one gave to the task.
She didn’t need it to be perfect, she didn’t judge her attempt, she gave it a go with a big smile and abandon and was happy with the result.
How lovely would it be to give ourselves the freedom to try something new with joy and abandon. To let go of the need to be perfect and to give it our best shot and be happy that we gave it a go. With practice that new thing eventually becomes second nature and we don’t even think about doing it. Consistency and continuity create results and practice makes progress.
