Many young people today are carrying more emotionally than we often realise.

Between school expectations, friendships, online life and exposure to global uncertainty, it can feel overwhelming at times.

This is why having a safe and supportive space to talk can be so important for young people.

If you’re a parent of a teen, you’re not alone in navigating this.

Continuing to learn for the children I support.

Engaging in online learning to deepen my understanding and strengthen my capacity to hold and support children in therapeutic work.

Working with children requires ongoing learning, reflection, and curiosity. Every opportunity to expand knowledge helps build the skills needed to understand children’s experiences and respond in ways that feel safe, supportive, and developmentally attuned.

I’ve been engaging in learning from Paris Goodyear-Brown, exploring the concept of “big behaviours in small containers” — a powerful reminder that children’s behaviours are often expressions of emotions and experiences that feel too big for their developing systems to hold.

Continuing professional development is an important part of ensuring the children and families who come to nurtured therapy receive thoughtful, informed, and compassionate support.

I truly love the work I do and feel grateful to keep learning from leaders in the field while supporting children to understand their feelings, build resilience, and grow.

Day 7-Internation Play Therapy Week!

As International Play Therapy Week comes to a close, we pause to reflect on the heart of this work—supporting children in ways that honour their development, individuality, and right to reach their full potential.

Play Therapy reminds us that children grow and heal best when they feel safe, understood, and respected. Through play, children are given space to express themselves, build resilience, and develop emotional confidence at their own pace.

At nurtured therapy, we are proud to celebrate a modality that places children first, this week and always.

Day 6-International Play Therapy Week!!

Play Therapy is evidence based and at nurtured therapy, we are committed to providing evidenced-informed practice, grounded in research and guided by each child's unique needs.

Today's focus is, Research and Evidence.

Research has shown that play therapy can have positive impacts on emotional regulation, attachment issues, self-esteem, and trauma responses.

Ongoing research strengthens the credibility of Play Therapy and helps therapists refine best practices and outcomes. The more we share what we learn from research, the better we can advocate for children’s mental health needs.

Day 5-International Play Therapy Week!!!

This International Play Therapy Week, we celebrate the collaborative nature of play therapy, where children, therapists, and families work together to support emotional growth, regulation, and wellbeing. 💛

Play therapy works best when caregivers are involved. Parents and caregivers provide support between sessions, help track changes, and reinforce emotional skills at home. Their encouragement, understanding, and engagement are vital in helping children feel supported and understood throughout the process.

Day 4-International Play Therapy Week!!

As the week progresses, we continue to acknowledge and celebrate everything that is Play Therapy.

Today’s focus is, the role of a Play Therapist.

Play therapy is not just “playtime” it’s a therapeutic relationship guided by a qualified professional with specialised training in play therapy. These therapists create safe, trusting environments where children can explore feelings, develop coping strategies, and build emotional strength. Their skill in using play intentionally helps children work through challenges in ways that feel natural and empowering.

Day 3-International Play Therapy Week!!

Play Therapy is developmentally appropriate because it uses play a child’s primary way of learning and making sense of the world as the medium for healing.

Today’s focus is, Play as a pathway to healing.

Children don't always have the words to communicate what they are feeling, thinking, or experiencing. Play Therapy honours how children naturally communicate, through play. Allowing them to express emotions, engage creatively, and work through difficulties at their own pace.

Day 2-International Play Therapy Week!!

nurtured therapy are joining play therapists, advocates, and families around the world to shine a spotlight on the transformative power of Play Therapy.

Today’s focus is, What is Play Therapy?

Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate form of counselling that uses play as a child’s natural language.

In child-centred play therapy, the child leads the play while the therapist provides a safe, accepting, and supportive space. Through play, children are able to express emotions, explore experiences, build emotional regulation, and grow in confidence at their own pace.

Play isn’t “just play.”

It’s how children communicate, learn, and heal 💛

🌍 It’s International Play Therapy Week. February 1-7, 2026

This week nurtured therapy celebrate the power of Play Therapy, a developmentally appropriate, evidence-based approach that supports children’s emotional wellbeing through their natural language of play.

Play Therapy works because it honours where children are developmentally, allowing them to express, explore, and make sense of their world in ways that feel safe and familiar.

At nurtured therapy we believe effective play therapy is a partnership where the child leads through play, the therapist provides a safe, attuned, and therapeutic relationship and parents and care givers support and strengthen progress beyond the playroom. Creating together, the conditions for growth, regulation, and meaningful change at the child’s pace.
