After more than twenty years as a funeral celebrant, one truth continues to guide me:
when someone dies, the people who matter most are those left behind. Their voices matter. Their stories matter.
This farewell for David wasn’t a traditional service. It was a circle of storytelling — a space to reflect, to laugh, to remember, to raise a glass.
The family asked me not to “lead”, but to gently facilitate… to ask the questions, to hold the space, to help the stories unfold.
What a privilege to be trusted in that way.
To witness the love in the room.
To honour a truly wonderful father, grandfather, community member — and beautiful human being.

Seven days in to my month-long fundraising journey for charity partner, by taking part in Surfebruary 🏄‍♀️

Surfebruary is a joyful, slightly wild, and very meaningful February tradition, where participants raise funds for cancer research by catching a wave or getting in the water every single day, rain, hail or shine.

It began with a small group of people who shared two things:
a deep love of the ocean, and a belief in giving back — inspired by the ocean’s powerful, grounding, transformative magic 🌊💙

The challenge?
Getting in the water every day.
The real catch?
1️⃣ Surf conditions
2️⃣ Bravery
3️⃣ And the occasional fear of getting your toes nibbled 😬

So while this might look like joy (and it is), your support could absolutely be considered a “danger donation” 😉

Every dollar raised supports the extraordinary work of Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, and I’ll be doing my part, showing up, getting salty, and honouring the healing power of the sea.

So much thought and care went into Robyn’s funeral. As the Funeral Director and Celebrant, the family had me on ‘speed-dial’… so much so, they called my number to order Chinese Takeaway the other night.

Fortunately, that’s not my speciality. 🍜😜

All my worlds collided…right in the heart… with this gig.

As a marriage celebrant, 10 years ago I married Kimberly & Stuart.

As a Funeral Director & Celebrant I walked alongside them when their 3 year old, Zoe, died from a heart condition.

As an MC at this fundraising event, I stood alongside my lifelong friend and CEO of Heart Kids,

& Stuart and Zoe’s little sister Abby were there too…for Heart Kids.

Such an extraordinary coming-together from the community for such a well-deserving charity and for all the beautiful work they do.

Out in the countryside today, helping a family with a direct cremation — also called No Service No Attendance. A simple, dignified farewell with ashes returned to loved ones, ready for a personal celebration of life, in their own way.
