Theodore Medical "meeting the individual and changing needs of the patient and community by providing a comprehensive, professional and efficient primary health service"

A healthy community is a happy community! The purpose of this page is to allow the Theodore community and interested individuals to keep up with the progress of construction of the new Theodore Medical Centre. This page will also be used to send out important or interesting information regarding health. This page isn’t the place to discuss positive or negative opinions regarding Theodore Health Centre. If you do have any positive feedback or constructive criticism, please do feel free to contact us at- anne.chater@theodoremedical.com.au

This practice provides a comprehensive rural general practice including surgery, anaesthetics and obstetrics. Also available on site is a wide range of diagnostic services including x-ray, ultrasound, hearing, heart and breathing tests. Other services include acupuncture, back manipulation and dispensary. Theodore Medical is the only private practice in Theodore and services the townships of Theodore, Cracow and surrounding areas. The practice is fully accredited through AGPAL and strives to uphold a high standard of service. The Principal, Dr Bruce Chater, is a Medical Superintendent (of Theodore Hospital) with Right of Private Practice. The practice also employs an assistant doctor (part-time), Dr Adele Love and a registrar, currenlty Dr Matthew French. Due to the destruction of the Theodore Medical private practice facility caused by the Christmas 2010 flood, Theodore Medical is now working from a demountable kindly loaned by Anglo American and installed by Queensland Health on the hospital grounds. Thedore Medical is based on a private billing system although pensioners and healthcare cardholders are bulk billed at Doctors' discretion. As a training practice, Theodore Medical has two University of Queensland medical students attached to the pracatice each academic year. As well as these students, other medical students from other Australian and overseas universities enjoy time attached to this practice. Notices will advise you of a student's presence and your permission for them to be a part of your consultation is requested. If this situation is unacceptable to you, please fell free to decline the offer of their presence. Keeping abreast of technology, Theodore Medical is a fully computerised surgery using Medical Director as the clinical software and Pracsoft for administration. The practice has two servers managing patient records and follows strict protocols to ensure this information is secure.

Dr. Travis Boon and his wife, Gina Boon, have decided to settle in Theodore for the long term and raise their growing family, continuing their involvement in our wonderful community.

Dr. Boon grew up in Augathella, where his father served as the sole doctor in town, working as a GP and in the hospital, much like the setup in Theodore. This background has given Dr. Boon a deep appreciation for small-town healthcare and community connections.

We would also like to acknowledge the contributions of Gina Boon. In her short time here in Theodore, she has taken on the role of Vice-President at TCL and has most recently assisted with the town rodeo at the ticket gate. She continues to lend a hand to help out with community groups and events. Her involvement has made a positive impact on our community, and we are grateful for her enthusiasm and commitment.

Dr. Boon is taking on new patients.

For Theodore Medical Centre Patients.

IMPORTANT:
Individuals with an existing record in the Australian Q Fever Register prior to 15 April 2024 will only be able to access their information, including their Q Fever eStatement, until 30th June 2025. After this date, individuals will no longer be able to access their information.

Individuals can access their Q Fever eStatement by either:
1: Logging onto the Q Fever Register website and downloading a copy; or
2: Requesting a copy by contacting the Q Fever Register on 1300 733 837
(Note: An individual’s identity must be verified before the release of any information.)

What Can I Do?

Access your Q fever vaccination evidence (Q fever eStatement) prior to June 30th 2025, and take this to a recognised vaccination provider in Australia for these details to be reported to the AIR.1,2

Since Q-VAX® is a one-off immunisation that must not be given a second time, nor given to anyone who has previously had Q fever, maintaining accurate records on the AIR means that important information is immediately available to your health practitioners.

In Summary:
Everyone who has been given a Q-Fever vaccination at Theodore Medical Centre is on the AIR register.

If you were not vaccinated by us and you are unsure, download a statement from the Q Fever Register and bring it in with you on your next appointment.
