The 2026 Queensland Nasal Spray Flu Immunisation (FluMist) Program has been expanded to include children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years (before they turn 18) who struggle with getting a needle.

This is in addition to all Queensland children aged 2 to 5 years (before they turn 6) who are already eligible for free nasal spray flu vaccine under the program.

Theodore Medical Centre invites applications for a full-time position within our team as a Medical
Receptionist.
We are seeking a friendly, organised, and reliable person to join our busy general practice. The
successful applicant will be responsible for providing high-quality front desk support and ensuring a
welcoming experience for patients.
Key responsibilities include:
• Greeting patients and managing appointments
• Answering phone calls and responding to enquiries
• Processing patient billing and payments
• Managing patient records and correspondence
• General administrative duties
The ideal candidate will have:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong organisational and time management abilities
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• A strong understanding of confidentiality and privacy in handling patient information.
• Previous medical reception experience (preferred but not essential)
Position details:
• Full-time hours: Monday to Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm (Wednesday 8:00am – 2:30pm)
• May need to work late some days (e.g. to 6:00pm)
• Award wages plus superannuation and entitlements

We would like to introduce you all to our newest member of our team, Dr Stephanie O'Connell.

She has moved to Theodore with her husband and two young children. If you see her or her family around, please say hello.

Here is a little bio about Steph:

Dr. Steph’s passion for rural medicine began during her upbringing in country Victoria and later strengthened while working as an Army Nurse in the Northern Territory, where she saw firsthand the need for improved access to healthcare. Motivated to make a greater impact, she pursued a career in medicine to provide essential GP care to rural communities.
Her overarching goal is to help build stronger, healthier communities. On a day-to-day level, she enjoys all aspects of General Practice and is looking forward to meeting the community of Theodore.
Outside of work, she is busy with her young family and has recently returned from maternity leave.

This Friday we’ll be saying goodbye to Dr Daniel Baum, who is heading to Darwin to start his Advanced Skills Training.
Daniel has been a valued part of our team, and we’re grateful for the care and commitment he’s brought to our community. We wish him all the best for this next step. Darwin’s getting a good one.

Going-away drinks will be held this Friday at the Theodore Bowls Club.
All are welcome to come along and wish him well.

The November 2025 government changes regarding direct patient billing or bulk billing

Theodore Medical Centre has made the decision to continue mixed billing practice, in order to continue to provide comprehensive care and support the care provided by our nursing, Aboriginal health, and AIN staff.

What this means:
Health care card holders, Pension card holders, and Close the Gap patients will continue to be bulk billed.
75year+ Health Assessments, Mental Health Care Plans, & Chronic Condition Management Plans, i.e. ‘care plan’ consults will continue to be bulk billed.
Appropriate phone consults will continue to be bulk billed.
All other patients will be subject to a private fee.
