Thanks to all of you who made this such a rich weekend. We are a small group in New Norfolk, Tassie but it was a pleasure to spend time with you exploring how Ortho-Bionomy can be employed to work with movement and functional patterns.

About Hugh Churchward and Ortho-Bionomy

Hi. My name is Hugh and I’m an Advanced Practitioner of Ortho-Bionomy as well as an Associate Instructor. I have been working in the areas of pain - both chronic and acute - injury, trauma and mental health for over 20 years. In Ortho-Bionomy we start from the understanding that the body has an inherent self correcting capacity - just look at what happens when we cut ourselves. This is known as homeostasis - that ability to adjust to keep a stable internal environment. But is also applies when we are moving. As we walk along uneven ground for example, our ankle will adjust to accommodate the changes in the ground we are walking on so that we don’t (hopefully) roll our ankle.

By harnessing this self corrective capacity I engage with the body in a way that facilitates more cohesive movement, a reduction in tension and inflammation, a settling of the arousal in our nervous system (which is essential when working with chronic pain or something such as fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome or post traumatic stress disorder - PTSD) and allow changes in the structures, tissues and arousal within our body. This is done through a combination of moving the body into positions that ease the tension, compression or traction and movements - all of which will stimulate a response in through our proprioceptive nervous system. As a student said recently - this is a really smart way to work. For more detailed information you can go to my website - www.hughchurchward.com.au
