As well as the obvious physical benefits, learning a new skill has great mental benefits too. It’s always good to keep your body and brain guessing. Try new activities; there are opportunities everywhere to learn new skills from athletics or crafts, to yoga or the less traditional forms of exercise such as rock climbing, boxing, rowing or canoeing.

'I say tomato...'

Tomato is a superstar in the fruit and veggie pantheon. Tomatoes contain lycopene, a powerful cancer fighter. They’re also rich in vitamin C. The good news is that cooked tomatoes are also nutritious, so use them in pasta, soups and casseroles, as well as in salads. The British Thoracic Society says that tomatoes and apples can reduce your risk of asthma and chronic lung diseases. Both contain the antioxidant quercetin. To enjoy the benefits, eat five apples a week or a tomato every other day.

Plan for relaxation. Most of us are busy during the week and even our weekends seem to become non-stop errands, chores, work and travel. So how do you find time to relax? Take the whole weekend (or at least part of it) to schedule some downtime for at least an hour or two. Whether it's practicing your favorite hobby, seeing a movie with friends or even meditating quietly, do something every weekend that recharges you. You'll not only feel better, but also beat stress.

Grab your runners, not a coffee - though it may be the last thing you feel like doing when you're tired, exercise, even a quick walk, can be more effective than a nap, cup of coffee, or sugar hit at fighting fatigue.

Carrying a heavy handbag or satchel on one shoulder can throw your body off balance and seriously hamper your posture. A bag you can wear in various positions is the best buy because it means you aren't putting all the pressure in one spot.

Stretch in the morning!
Instead of hitting 'Snooze,' use your time more wisely. Stretch your back, your legs, and your neck. Stretching in the morning increases blood flow to your muscles, providing an extra shot of oxygen and preparing them for a new day.

Take regular breaks!

It's easy to stay at your desk working overtime, but in reality, working long hours is stressful on the body and just makes you fatigued. Try to get 10 minutes of fresh air when you can, whether it's on a roof terrace or balcony - or simply move into a more relaxed break-out area.

Stay hydrated during colder months by drinking a minimum of eight glasses of water daily.

Most offices today have air-conditioning systems. The dry air generated by such a system may lead to drier mucous membranes, which may in turn increase your risks of catching a cold or similar illness. Studies have found that people working in offices with air-conditioning systems can have a higher rate of sick-related absences and more visits to ear, nose and throat doctors. If you find water too boring, add a squeeze of lemon, or try a low- to no-calorie alternative like green tea.
