On International Women’s Day, I feel really lucky to work alongside two truly incredible women at Helping Hand Therapy.

Kathryn Shutt is an amazing physiotherapist, devoted mum and grandmother, and one of the kindest people you could meet. Her wisdom, warmth and huge heart make such a difference to everyone around her.

Bethan Shutt is our wonderful senior social worker and an absolute force of strength. As a mum to five children with additional needs, she brings such deep compassion, resilience and real-life understanding to the families she supports every day.

And I’m proud to stand beside them too. I’m Ceri Greer, senior social worker and mum to four wonderful boys. I’m incredibly passionate about advocating for children and young people, making sure their voices are heard, supported and given every chance to thrive.

I feel incredibly grateful to stand alongside these women. They are mothers, professionals, advocates, carers, and leaders in their own ways. They show every day what strength, empathy, and dedication truly look like.

Happy International Women’s Day to all the amazing women out there. 💜

HAPPY ST DAVIDS DAY……..🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

St David’s Day, or Dydd Gwyl Dewi, is celebrated annually on March 1.

Just like the Irish celebrate their patron saint on St Patrick’s Day, St David’s Day remembers the patron saint of Wales.

Social Worker vs Occupational Therapist.

When supporting children, families often ask whether a Social Worker or an Occupational Therapist (OT) is the right fit. Both play important roles they just focus on different areas of development.

Social Workers support the emotional, social, and relational needs of children. This can include:• Emotional regulation and understanding big feelings• Managing change, transitions, and routines• Anxiety support and coping strategies• Social understanding, friendships, and conflict resolution• Supporting parents, carers, and schools with consistent strategies
Social workers take a whole-child and family-centred approach, supporting children across home, school, and community settings.

Occupational Therapists (OTs) support the functional and sensory needs of children, including:• Sensory processing • Fine motor skill development• Daily living skills (eating, dressing, toileting)• School readiness and classroom participation• Building independence through practical skills

Under the NDIS, both Social Work and OT supports can be claimed under Capacity Building, and many participants benefit from having both as part of their support team.

Not sure which support is right for your child? We’re always happy to chat and help guide you in the right direction
