The holiday season can bring a lot of pressure to be cheerful, keep up with plans, show up for everyone, and somehow make everything feel “perfect.”

This year, try swapping the self-critical “Grinch” voice for a more compassionate “Elf” one.

Here are a few gentle ways to bring in more kindness toward yourself this season:

🔹Notice the harsh thoughts: When the inner critic shows up, try saying, “Ah, that’s the Grinch talking.” Simply naming it can soften the intensity.
🔹Set ‘elf-sized’ expectations: You don’t need a flawless holiday. Choose the one or two things that genuinely matter to you and let the rest be simple.
🔹Find small pockets of joy: A quiet cup of coffee, a walk, your favourite holiday song or movie, tiny pauses still count.
🔹Celebrate what is going well: Write down one small win each day and let yourself feel proud. You’re doing more than you give yourself credit for.
🔹Offer yourself the kindness you’d offer someone you care about: If you wouldn’t say it to them, it probably doesn’t belong in your self-talk either.

A gentle reminder: you don’t have to be perfect to make the holidays meaningful. Presence over perfection, always.

Psychosocial disability is more common than many realise, and often comes with other support needs. It’s a reminder to lead with respect, use inclusive language, and create spaces where everyone feels understood and welcomed.

Right now you’re probably bracing yourself for your Psychologist’s annual fee increase…

You know the one we’re talking about…

The one that happens each year in January, the exact month when money is tight after the holiday period and just as back-to-school expenses start to kick in…

Well, not here at The Psych Professionals! In fact, this year we are doing what no-one else is doing…. (And we’re really excited about it!!)

We are actually reducing our fees - gasp!!

As of 1 December 2025, we have (already) reduced fees with most of our Springwood Team offering between a $20 - $80 fee reduction per session!!!

Why on earth would we do that you ask….?

Well, this adjustment aligns with our vision of helping more people in better and more effective ways.

By easing the financial barrier to access we want to give our clients the best chance looking after their mental health.

We also want to ensure that mental health doesn’t become a luxury item, at its core, mental health is an essential service.

As a practice, we feel we have a responsibility to proactively contribute to the wellbeing of our community, especially at a time when many people are delaying vital support due to financial pressure.

This is us modelling what ethical, client-centred care looks like in an environment where costs are rising everywhere else.

We still have appointments left for December, so be sure to give us a call on 07 3823 2230 or email us at contact@psychprofessionals.com.au

December has a special way of stretching parents in every direction: the lists, the noise, the “Muuuuum!” on repeat, or the sudden disappearance of anything that was organised five minutes ago.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, scattered, or like you’re running on autopilot… you’re not alone. The holiday season asks a lot of parents, emotionally, mentally, and logistically.

A gentle reminder:
🔹 You don’t have to have everything under control.
🔹 “We’ll see” is a valid survival strategy.
🔹 It’s okay if things feel messy, noisy, or not Pinterest-perfect.
🔹 And it’s more than okay to take a moment for yourself (and then another one).

Parenting during the holidays is a lot, and if you’re doing your best, you’re doing enough.

Web-based therapies, such as video calls, phone calls, and chats have become more and more common. Thanks to the Internet, you can access many types of therapy from the comfort of your own home. However if you’re used to face-to-face therapy, you might not be sure about the effectiveness of these modes of therapy. So the question arises, how effective is videoconferencing and phone therapy?

Video and phone therapy is becoming a popular mode of delivery. Here, we look at some of the evidence behind it's effectiveness.
