👉👉 Hand, Arm, Shoulder Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) 👈👈

FES is a therapy technique that uses small, controlled electrical impulses to activate muscles and nerves that are not working effectively following neurological damage.

FES can be used to support movement, improve muscle activation, and assist with functional tasks, such as opening the hand, reaching, or maintaining joint alignment during activity. It may also be used to support motor re-learning when combined with active, task-specific practice.

Our therapists assess whether FES is appropriate for you and integrate it into your upper limb rehabilitation program where it aligns with your goals. FES is always used as a tool to support functional outcomes, rather than as a standalone treatment.

MEET KYE ✨

Kye’s story started almost 10 years ago now when he was still in utero and given less than a 2% chance of survival. Little did his medical team know then about how much of a strong and determined little fighter he was. Kye was born at 28 weeks with multiple lifelong medical conditions and disabilities, and spent most of the first few years of his life in hospital. Kye has always been a kind and caring soul, so when he first heard about ‘Ride for Wishes’ in January 2024 on the radio, he immediately wanted to participate and in his own words “I’m going to make so many sick kids get their wishes mum because I know how sad being in hospital is!” Kye is now in his 3rd year of riding and raising money for Wish Kids. He looks forward to February every year, and always aims to beat his previous fundraising goal. All money raised goes straight to helping critically ill children’s wishes come true and help make their childhood magical, like every child deserves 🌟

Back with Rob ✅ This session focused on supported standing, using a squish ball as a tactile cue to maintain head and neck alignment against the wall while lifted his arms. The goal is to progressively remove his hand support from the roller while maintaining his postural control. Each session we’re seeing improved control and confidence in this position 💪💪

Clinton comes in for fortnightly physio, working on strength, endurance, and balance 💪
He’s always a joy in the clinic, saying hello to everyone, cheering other clients on, and keeping himself on the move. His exercise inspiration? Arnold Schwarzenegger 😄 with Clint’s catchphrase being “just like Arnold” every time he powers through an exercise. Clint loves trying new things (hence the variety of exercises!) and has recently moved into a SIL to support his independence. We’re so proud to be part of his journey 👏
