🐣 Easter Week Clinic Schedule

We’re taking a short break over the Easter long weekend. The clinic will be closed during this time — please see our updated schedule above.

If you’ve been putting something off, this is your sign to sort it before the break.

We’ll be back soon, refreshed and ready to help you feel your best. ✨

Most warm-ups I see look like this:
• Jog a lap 🏃‍♂️
• Quick stretch 🤸‍♂️
• Start training 💪

Feels right…
But it’s missing the most important parts.

Structured warm-ups can reduce:
✔ ACL injuries by up to 60%
✔ Ankle injuries by up to 60%
✔ Hamstring strains by 50%

In this week’s blog, I break down the 3-part framework we use with local teams to actually prepare the body for sport ⚽

It’s not longer.
It’s just smarter.

Great morning with the crew on Saturday 🏊‍♂️

I had the chance to run a quick session on how swimmers can prepare properly on race day — especially how to use the time in the marshalling area to give yourself the best chance of performing well.

We focused on three simple things swimmers can do before they step up to the blocks:

1️⃣ Visualisation & mental preparation
Take a moment to run through your race in your head. Picture the start, your turns, and the finish. It helps calm nerves and sharpen focus.

2️⃣ Arm warm-up
Getting the shoulders and arms warm keeps them feeling loose and ready to fire from the first stroke.

3️⃣ Leg warm-up
A few quick activation drills help wake up the legs so they’re ready for the dive and strong kicking early in the race.

We also chatted about a few other important pieces of the puzzle:
✔️ Mobility preparation the day before racing
✔️ Cool-down routines after events
✔️ Simple nutrition basics for race day

Small habits like these can make a big difference when it comes time to perform.

Thanks to for having me out — great to see so many motivated young swimmers putting in the work 💪

🌟 Team Spotlight: David 🌟

Great learning opportunity this week. 📚

Dave presented a challenging knee case to the RIPN – Research in Practice Network, opening it up for discussion, reflection, and shared clinical reasoning.

These sessions take courage. Presenting difficult cases, questioning your thinking, and learning from others is where real growth happens as a clinician.

We’re incredibly proud of our team for stepping into opportunities like this to keep improving the care we provide our patients. 👏

Can physio actually help muscle injuries like avulsions… or do they just need time? 🤔

We’re seeing more teenage athletes with hip and pelvis “muscle strains” that are actually small bone avulsions.

It often goes something like this:
🔹 They hear a pop
🔹 They’re sore for a week
🔹 They try to go back to sport
🔹 And it flares up again

The good news?
They usually heal really well. 🙌

But only if they’re managed properly.

In this week’s blog I break down:
✔ What a muscle avulsion actually is
✔ Why kids don’t tear muscles the same way adults do
✔ When you should get an X-ray 🩻
✔ How we safely guide young athletes back to sport

If you’ve got a young athlete whose injury just isn’t settling, this is worth a read.

There’s a few extra smiles around the clinic today.

Ellie is back in the clinic after maternity leave 💛

For the past few months she’s been busy raising a tiny human 👶 — which we’re told involves very little sleep and very strong coffee.

Today she’s back with the team, bringing her calm energy and plenty of baby photos with her.

Safe to say… we’re pretty happy about it.

Welcome back, Ellie. We’ve missed you 💛

Is your child complaining of heel pain after sport? 👟

It might not be “just growing pains.”

One of the most common causes of heel pain in active kids aged 8–14 is Sever’s disease — especially during those rapid growth spurts 📈.

The good news?
It’s very manageable. 👍

This week, I break down:
✔️ What Sever’s disease actually is
✔️ Why it happens in growing kids
✔️ When it’s something to pay attention to
✔️ How physiotherapy can help get them back to sport

Because kids should be able to run, jump and play without heel pain slowing them down. 🏃‍♂️

Ever been told you need to “go back to your GP for MRI referral”? 🤕

Here’s the good news 👇
𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗼𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗥𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗼.

And with RibbonCare, we can help you access a bulk-billed MRI for around $150 ✨

A familiar face returns. 👋

From March 10, Ellie is back consulting one day a week.

Yes, she’s been busy raising a tiny human. No, she hasn’t forgotten how to run a no-nonsense rehab plan.

We’re proud to support strong clinicians who are also strong parents.

If you’ve missed her calm approach and no-drama rehab plans… she’s back.

One day a week. Same Ellie. 💛

Should kids focus on just one sport to get ahead?

It’s one of the most common questions we get from parents — and the science is crystal clear 👇

👉 Kids who play multiple sports are more likely to:
✅ Stay injury-free
✅ Avoid burnout
✅ Perform better long-term

Early sport specialisation (focusing on one sport year-round) actually increases injury risk and can limit development.

We’ve broken down the research — and what it means for your child — in our latest blog.
