Certificate II public safety day 10

Today our students had to handle some of the toughest scenarios yet and we might add in some pretty average conditions.

First the entire team sat inside the Compartment Fire Behaviour Training Cell learning about the stages of fire development, over/under pressure, neutral plane, gas cooling, ventilation and more.

The team was then required to carry out a search and rescue mission in a single storey structure with live fire and minimal visibility.

The team went through the Cells in groups of 2 and 3 to locate and extricate a casualty while at the same time handling realistic fire conditions.

When progressing through the scenarios inside the cells it was evident the students had absorbed the required knowledge and skills from their 10 days of training.

The students had a great time and received some specialised hands on training at our purpose built facility.

Today, Visy's Emergency Response Team (ERT) engaged in a comprehensive training session at our purpose built facility, focusing on:

🔥 Live Pit Fires: Enhancing firefighting techniques and safety protocols.
🏚️ Structure Fire Scenarios: Practicing real-world fire suppression and evacuation procedures.
🧭 Search and Rescue Operations: Refining skills in locating and assisting individuals in simulated emergency situations.

These exercises are pivotal in ensuring the team's preparedness and effectiveness in real emergencies. Regular training and drills are essential for ERTs, as they simulate real-life scenarios, enhancing team readiness and coordination.

Trainer Development Day with Skylotec Australia 👷‍♂️🧠

What a solid day of upskilling with Tony from Skylotec Australia! 💪 Our trainers spent four hours diving deep into the ins and outs of height safety gear—learning about different types of equipment, how they work, and the safest ways to use them out in the field.

Massive thanks to Tony for the hands-on session, product knowledge, and making it all practical and engaging. Always a win when we can keep lifting the bar for safety and training.

upSKILLing our trainers FERNO style.

A big thanks to GREG from FERNO for accepting our invitation to our monthly trainer / staff DEVELOPMENT DAY.

Greg made a special trip down to see us and didn't disappoint. His knowledge, skills and experience were exceptional and he had everyone's attention.

Greg provided detailed technical information and demonstration of the FERNO ARACHNIPOD as well as showing us the new XTRIC8 stretecher and older model VRES stretcher.

It's fantastic that our suppliers, partners, technical experts have accepted our invites and are willing to share special knowledge with our trainers.

It means that we continue to learn and as we learn so do you our valued clients and learners.

Snowy Emergency Response Team Refreshers October 2024

Over the past two weeks, we had the privilege of hosting two Emergency Response teams at the Academy for a 2-day intensive training session, focusing on refreshing and refining their fire-fighting skills.

Both teams came in a little rusty but quickly found their stride, tackling challenging scenarios with determination and teamwork.

The training included:

- Search and rescue operations in cold smoke with zero visibility, requiring teams to locate and extricate casualties.

- Live open-air pit fires with two attack lines and complex multiple scenarios.

- Live structure fires with multiple burn cells, with scenarios becoming progressively more difficult throughout the day.

The enthusiasm and commitment shown by both teams were exceptional. Each member, regardless of experience, stepped up to the challenge—taking on new roles like Team Leader, Breathing Apparatus Control, and Comms Officer.

It was particularly great to see the teams welcoming additional participants from outside Snowy Hydro, integrating them as if they'd been part of the team all along.

A special thank you goes to the Snowy Hydro teams for their hard work, positive attitudes, and professionalism. Your efforts in both training and assisting with the cleanup afterward were much appreciated. We didn't mind the friendly banter either.

We hope you all find some time to rest and recharge. Looking forward to welcoming another Snowy Hydro ERT in 2025!

🔥 2 Days of Structural Firefighting = Complete! 🔥

Shoutout to the Snowy Hydro Emergency Response Team for crushing their intensive structural firefighting refresher! 🙌 The physical and mental strength required for this training is next level—every scenario is demanding, from suiting up to the final cleanup. 🧑‍🚒💪

Big thanks to the expert instructors from Thurgoona Training Academy and the team for the preparation, delivery and top-notch guidance. 👏 Without your hard work and dedication, these heroes wouldn’t be as prepared to keep us safe. Thanks also to our guest Instructor Hamilton for making the trip down and sharing your experience and lending a hand.
