With severe weather forecast for Townsville and surrounds, we’re reminding everyone to take a few simple steps to stay safe and prepared.

✅ Charge phones/power banks
✅ Keep essential medications, water and supplies close by
✅ Secure loose outdoor items (bins, furniture, pot plants)
✅ Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and strong winds
✅ Check on neighbours, friends and family if it’s safe to do so

🧢 Heat-Safe Accessible Outings in Townsville (Summer Survival Guide) 🌴
North Queensland summer is serious – especially if you live with disability, chronic illness, mobility challenges or sensory differences.

Our new blog shares heat-safe, accessible outing ideas in Townsville, including:
• Early-morning and late-afternoon walks along The Strand, Ross River and Riverway
• Shaded parks and gardens for short “lap and sit” visits
• Air-conditioned venues like museums, galleries, libraries and shopping centres
• Hydration, sun protection and heat stress warning signs
• How certain medications and conditions can increase heat and seizure risk
We also explain how our support workers adjust timing, clothing, pacing and rest breaks in summer so people can still get out safely without risking heat exhaustion.
