Certain body positions send immediate safety signals to the nervous system. Holding this pose for just 5 to 10 minutes gently releases tension in the lower back and hips, areas where stress is commonly stored. As muscles soften, the brain receives feedback that it is safe to relax.
The hips and spine are closely linked to emotional regulation. Tightness here often reflects prolonged stress or guarded posture. When these areas open, pressure on surrounding nerves decreases, allowing the parasympathetic nervous system to take over and slow the stress response naturally.
This posture also supports diaphragmatic breathing. As breathing deepens, heart rate slows and cortisol levels begin to drop. The nervous system shifts out of fight or flight mode and into rest and repair, creating a calm state that can be felt within minutes.
What makes this powerful is accessibility. No intensity, no effort, just stillness and time. Practiced regularly, this pose can help retrain the nervous system to settle more easily. A few quiet minutes on the floor may be enough to reset tension, restore comfort, and bring the body and brain back into balance.
