Build Tom Price Hospital

Build Tom Price Hospital In 2021 the State Government promised Tom Price $12.8 million for a new Hospital. To this day not one piece of dirt has been turned. Enough is enough.

Authorised by Audra Smith, Shire of Ashburton, Lot 246 Poinciana Street, Tom Price. Bandages Won't Fix Broken Promises. The Tom Price community was promised a new hospital on 26 February 2021 as part of the 2021 State Election. The Shire of Ashburton welcomed this commitment, which was boosted by a generous $20 million contribution from Rio Tinto Iron Ore. The hospital is old, outdated and hasn't changed for 30 years. The Tom Price community has been patient โ€“ but itโ€™s been three years and not one piece of dirt has been turned. We have reached out on behalf of Tom Price residents and locals, to advocate for the new Tom Price Hospital with no result. President Smith, backed by the Ashburton Shire Council, is taking the fight on behalf of the community to the Minister. We demand accountability from the Minister for Health. It's time for Amber-Jade Sanderson to fulfill her promise so that families aren't torn apart, with children being raised in hospitals while their mothers sleep on beds 1500 kilometres away from home, deprived of the security and comfort of their own surroundings because necessary care isn't available in their hometown. Exciting times ahead for Tom Price! ๐Ÿฅ

This new sign shows advances on the much-anticipated project and to deliver last years promise.

Tom Price Hospital Progressing as Key Milestone Reached

The much-anticipated redevelopment of the Tom Price Health Service has taken a significant step forward, with the installation of project signage marking visible progress in delivering improved healthcare facilities for the region.

A collaboration between the Shire of Ashburton, the State Government and Rio Tinto, the project will provide a modern emergency department, a new four-bed inpatient ward, upgraded dental and pathology services and contemporary ambulatory care facilities to better meet the needs of the growing Tom Price community.

Shire President, Audra Smith, welcomed the latest development.
โ€œThis project has been a priority for our Shire and community, which we have advocated for many years, and itโ€™s fantastic to see it progressing. The new Tom Price Health Service will provide essential improvements in healthcare access for our residents, and we are proud to be working in partnership with the State Government to bring it to life,โ€ she said.

As part of the broader commitment to regional healthcare thanks to Rio Tintoโ€™s additional $20 million contribution, signage for the Paraburdoo Health Service redevelopment is set to be installed next week, ensuring that both communities remain well-informed about the exciting projects promised in early July, 2024.

The Shire of Ashburton continues to advocate for high-quality health services in the region, and this redevelopment is a major milestone in securing accessible, modern healthcare for Tom Price and surrounding regional areas.

Shire of Ashburton is Pleased with the State Government's Appointment of Contractor for Tom Price and Paraburdoo Hospitals

The Shire of Ashburton is pleased to support the announcement from the State Government to appoint Cooper & Oxley through an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process for the upcoming Tom Price and Paraburdoo hospitals project.

This ECI process will enable the contractor to work collaboratively with stakeholders early in the project, providing detailed input on design and construction plans to ensure high-quality, fit-for-purpose facilities that meet community needs. Geotechnical and ground survey work at the Tom Price site will commence soon, laying the groundwork for future development.

President Smith welcomes the State Governmentโ€™s decision and is optimistic that the value engineering process and thorough planning will deliver the essential hospital services that the community needs.

โ€œThe Shire will support this project with the land necessary for its success. We urge the State Government to consider the ECI process as a priority in the coming months and we hope to see the design for the hospital in the new year, reflecting our communityโ€™s needs,โ€ said President Smith.

The Shire will continue to work with the State Government and other partners to ensure this critical infrastructure project meets the highest standards for the Ashburton community.

Shire of Ashburton and the Labor Government Collaborate to Secure Land for the New Tom Price Hospital

Works for the new Tom Price Hospital are on track, with land now officially secured in Tom Price.

The new hospital will provide much-needed healthcare upgrades for the Tom Price community, including residents and visitors. The upgrades will feature a modern emergency department, private interview and consulting rooms and a four-bed inpatient ward, significantly improving access to quality healthcare in the region.

President Smith welcomed the announcement, stating,

"This is a long-awaited day for the Tom Price community. Securing land for the new hospital brings us one step closer to turning the sod and beginning construction. The upgraded facilities will be life changing for healthcare in our region and we look forward to seeing this essential project come to life," she said.

Following the State Governmentโ€™s announcement in early July that a tender would be issued in August, we anticipate the contract to be awarded in November 2024. Construction of the Tom Price Hospital is expected to begin shortly after, with the Paraburdoo Hospital redevelopment also in progress.

The Shire of Ashburton is excited to work with the State Government to deliver these vital health services to the community.

Shire of Ashburton President Audra Smith and Premier Cook Forge Partnership to Streamline Tom Price and Paraburdoo Hospital Projects

Earlier this week, Shire President Audra Smith and the Honourable Roger Cook met, further solidifying the partnership between the Shire of Ashburton and the State Government to streamline the delivery of the new Tom Price and Paraburdoo Hospitals.

President Smith is committed to delivering these critical projects for the Ashburton community.

โ€œWe know that the construction and delivery of much-needed health infrastructure come with unique challenges in the Shire of Ashburton. That's why I am pleased to be working in partnership with the Premier to address these challenges and meet the needs of our community.

โ€œThe Shire of Ashburton acknowledges Rio Tintoโ€™s generous contribution to these projects and recognises the importance of quality health services in attracting and retaining families and essential workers across our Shire.

โ€œWhen State and Local Government work together, we can achieve a great deal for the people we serve. I would like to once again thank the Premier for his support in delivering these vital pieces of health infrastructure and for listening to our community,โ€ said President Smith.

A contract is expected to be awarded in November 2024, with works on the Tom Price Hospital to commence soon after.

The tender for the fast-tracked Tom Price and Paraburdoo Hospitals projects has been released, with a contract expected to be awarded in November this year.

Last month the Cook Government announced it had partnered with Rio Tinto to fast-track major redevelopments at Tom Price and Paraburdoo Hospitals by bundling together the projects to create a larger package of works.

The Tom Price project includes the design and construction of a new facility, which will include a modern emergency department, contemporary facilities for visiting services with private interview and consulting rooms, and a four-bed inpatient ward.

The Paraburdoo Hospital project includes the design and construction of a new fit-for-purpose facility at the existing hospital site. The final scope for the facility will be informed through collaboration with key stakeholders.

An exciting announcement, this is the next step towards our promised hospitals being delivered!

Tom Price and Paraburdoo community wins as campaign delivers progress on two new hospitals

The Shire of Ashburton has welcomed the State Governmentโ€™s announcement today that they will be issuing a tender next month to deliver both Paraburdoo and Tom Price hospitals.

Premier Roger Cook travelled to Tom Price and met with the Shire of Ashburton today to announce the news and brief the Shire in-person on the State Governmentโ€™s updated plans.

The State Government has committed to release a tender for construction in August 2024, with awarding expected in November 2024 and fast-tracked works for Tom Price Hospital to commence in December 2024.

Todayโ€™s announcement also saw an additional $20 million commitment from Rio Tinto, through the Resources Community Investment Initiative (RCII), to enable the new Paraburdoo Hospital to be constructed in conjunction with the new Tom Price Hospital.

President Smith embraces the announcement and the positive step forward in addressing regional health issues.

โ€œWe want to thank everyone in the Ashburton community, right across the State, for their support in getting these important projects back on the agenda.

โ€œIt was fantastic to have the Premier in Tom Price today to acknowledge the communityโ€™s grassroots campaign to get these hospitals underway and prioritise the health of our community.

โ€œRegional Western Australians deserve the same services and attention as anyone else in our great State.

โ€œWe would also like to acknowledge the contribution of Rio Tinto to make these combined projects possible.

โ€œWe look forward to working collaboratively and constructively with the State Government to keep these important projects on track for our community,โ€ stated President Smith.

A new promise on the horizon for the Tom Price community: Does it equal a new hospital?

On Sunday 9 July, Party Leader Libby Mettam announced the WA Liberal Government will commit to building the new Tom Price Hospital in the first term of government.
With no shovel to dirt or progress with the Shire since February 2021, the pressure is building for our hospital to be delivered, and the Tom Price community are sick of waiting.

President Smith welcomes this announcement; however, with the inaction over the past 3 and a half years from the Labor government, the community will only be confident of the project once a tender is issued.

โ€œThe commitment to the people and our surrounding region is a priority, and weโ€™re waiting for any indication or movement for a new Tom Price Hospital to be built.
โ€œWhile this is the latest update for our much-needed facility and we are thrilled at the thought of a new hospital, the pressure is mounting for State Government to do something and the time is now,โ€ stated President Smith.

This announcement comes after the Labor Governmentโ€™s election promise in 2021 of $12.8 million for a new Tom Price Hospital remains unfulfilled in the May 2024-25 budget announcement, where a mere $77,000 of the already committed funding, is set to be spent in 2027.

Broken Labor promises seem to be found in all regional towns with endemic health problems: with the recent announcement of the WA Government walking away from building Halls Creek renal centre before next State Election, this is a story that sounds too familiar. The WA Government originally pledged to build a dialysis centre in Halls Creek within the parliamentary term, but that timeframe has been abandoned. Like Tom Price, the $24 million dollar facility was an election promise, but it is expected the cost will have dramatically blown out and leaves their community forgotten.

The Tom Price community are sadly getting used to waiting, though we hope this news will put pressure on the original promise.
