Hey did you know? Human exposure studies have shown that the air quality in our homes is 2-5 times more toxic than the pollution levels outside. Candles contain a variety of chemicals, primarily in the wax and fragrances used. When burned, these candles release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other substances into the air. The specific chemicals and their effects can vary based on the type of candle and its ingredients. Exposure to VOCs can cause a range of health problems, including headaches, dizziness, and respiratory issues.

Today’s DIY:

1. Beeswax Candles
450 grams of beeswax pellets
1/2 cup coconut oil
20 drops of your favourite Essential Oil
60 ply cotton wicks with wick tabs
Melt the beeswax and coconut oil in a double boiler. Allow to cool slightly and add selected oils. Attach the cotton wicks to the wick tabs and stick to the bottom of the glass jar. Pour the mixture into the jars allowing a cm of cotton to stick out of the top. Make sure ingredients are cool before lighting.

2. Candle Melts
1/3 cup beeswax pellets
15 drops Citrus Fresh or another of your favourite blends
Melt the beeswax in a double boiler. Allow to cool slightly and add selected oils. Pour quickly into your mould until set. Place one above a candle burner for an amazing chemical free aroma.
