March is lymphoedema awareness month.

It's also the perfect weather to come to a workshop and learn manual equine lymphatic drainage. 😃

Manual lymphatic drainage is a technique that focuses on the lymphatic system and improves the movement of lymph in the body. This is vital for muscular health and supports immunity.

Horses that may have congestion or reduced lymphatic movement might be showing signs of:
-Swelling
- Lethargy
- General discomfort
- Stiffness
- Poor recovery from training

Horses that benefit from lymphatic drainage can include:
- diagnoses of lymphedema
- Horses on box rest
- Horses that travel a lot
- Sensitive horses
- Older horses

This workshop is for owners and therapists and over 2 days we will be looking at:

- How the lymphatic system functions
- what makes up the lymphatic system
- Applying manual lymphatic drainage

Date: 14-15th March
Venue: Quenda Glade Equine Gidgegannup
Start: 9am to 3pm

Education is at the core of everything we do.

From application techniques to adhesive performance, taping is only as effective as the knowledge behind it.

That’s why we continue to invest in education—for practitioners, professionals, and teams who want better outcomes, not shortcuts.

Because tape is just tape… until you know how to use it. 🖤✂️

One of the biggest misconceptions about the lymphatic system is that it needs a lot of pressure and energy.

No. No it doesn't.

As therapists, we influence the superficial parts of the lymphatic system that has an on flow effect to the deeper parts.

Blue light trickling through the skin stimulates the pre-collectors of the lymphatic system. Pre-collectors are really small pipes that sit below the surface of the skin.

Horses, after travelling, on box rest, and generally aren't walking around as much as they normally would, need their lymphatic system stimulated.

We can achieve this with walking, brushing, Hestaband Kinesiotaping and BLUE light.

Pads and torches are an excellent investment for lymphatic health.

Blue light works closest to the surface of the body.

At around 440nm, blue light is designed to support the skin and superficial tissue layers, rather than penetrating deeply into muscle or joints.

Blue light is great for:
🔵 Cooling inflammation
🔵 Reducing bacteria and fungi
🔵 Calming the skin and aiding tissue repair

Not every situation calls for deep support. Sometimes targeting the top layers is exactly what’s needed, especially for scar tissue support.

Each wavelength has a role to play and blue light does its best work right at the surface! ✨

Save this for later to remind you of how different light settings work. 🔵

I have just invited myself to attend the Equestricare Equine Sports Therapy OTT workshops.

I see a lot of OTTs, ridden and owned my own and it's always interesting to learn more.

There is an email list to let you know what the dates are!

Equestricare is very excited to be a part of the 2026 Off the Track WA Community Fund, an initiative of Racing WA.
As part of the Initiative we are offering a series of 6 workshops on equine health aimed at the OTT. These workshops will be free for OTTWA passport holders (also available to non passport holders).

The series includes 6 Workshops covering many topics that are relevant to OTT horses and riders.

1. Underneath the Skin (looking at the skeleton and anatomy of the Thoroughbred/Standardbred)
Using our bone lab and live horses, participants will explore the skeleton of the Thoroughbred and relate structural features to the live horse. This helps owners understand how conformation and skeletal stress from racing can affect movement and comfort..

2. How Your Horse Moves (Muscles, Muscles, Muscles)
This workshop will focus on the muscular system, with emphasis on the back and neck—common areas of strain in ex-racehorses.

3. Your Helping Hands (Massage techniques and Tools)
This workshop will cover practical training in massage techniques and the safe use of supportive tools to relieve tension, improve circulation, and support recovery. Owners will practice techniques and walk away with a routine they can use at home themselves.

4. Posture for Performance (Stretching & Strengthening Exercises)
This workshop will teach safe stretching, groundwork, and ridden exercises designed to strengthen the musculoskeletal system, build correct posture, and support long-term soundness of our equine partners.

5. Your racehorse Inside & Out (Body Systems & Nutrition)
This workshop will cover the major body systems (digestive, respiratory, circulatory) and how racing affects them, including the transition to a different diet post-racing. Owners learn to make informed choices around nutrition, feeding routines, and general care.

6. What tack is that? (Impact of Tack on Body and Behaviour)
This workshop will explore the differences between racing equipment and tack used in equestrian disciplines, including saddle fit and bit choice. The aim of this workshop is to help owners make informed, responsible choices and create a smoother transition into new careers.

Come along to all 6 workshops and get a free goody bag plus free access to the online course and books. Workshops will be held at our venue Quenda Glade Equine in Gidgegannup and run from 10-3 inc morning/afternoon tea. Participants can bring a horse or use one of ours.
