🎉 Kilcoy Rodeo Container Collection Update 🎉

After a few days of playing the guessing game, we’re excited to announce the final count for the containers collected at the Kilcoy Rodeo!

22,893 is the magic number! 🙌

That’s 4,550 more than our total for 2024, which is a fantastic result. A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this happen, and a special shoutout to the team at Containers for Change Bribie Island - Express Recycling for taking some of the weight off our shoulders and doing the count for us.

Thanks again to everyone who contributed, and here's to even bigger numbers next year! 🚮💪

It looks like Kym Modistach was the closest to the number with a guess of 23,487.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported and contributed to our involvement in this year’s Kilcoy Rodeo.

A heartfelt thank you to the Kilcoy Rodeo Committee for once again welcoming us to be part of this iconic community event. We’re always honoured to be involved and appreciate the opportunity.

To Containers for Change QLD, thank you for supplying the promotional materials that helped spread awareness of our initiative. Your continued partnership is truly valued.

A huge thank you to Containers for Change Bribie Island - Express Recycling and Containers for Change Burpengary - Express Recycling for the generous loan of the truck and bins, which were essential to our success, and a very special shoutout to Pete from Express Recycling at Bribie, who kindly gave up his time—twice—on Sunday to allow us access to the site to drop off containers. Your generosity and flexibility made a huge difference, and we are incredibly grateful.

Thank you also to Nikki Mullen, who went above and beyond to ensure everything was organised and available when we needed it. Your dedication did not go unnoticed.

We’re also sincerely grateful to Northside Cleaning and Packaging Supplies for the kind donation of rubbish bin liners—your support helped us keep the site clean and efficient.

To our incredible band of volunteers, we could not have done this without you. Your time, energy, and enthusiasm were the heart of our efforts:

Now that the weekend is over, let’s talk numbers!

As many of you know, we attended the 2025 Kilcoy Rodeo to collect containers in support of Hudson’s fundraising journey. We’re excited to share that we ended up with five 1100L bins and thirty-six 240L bins full of containers!

But before we reveal the final count…
Let’s have a bit of fun—it’s guessing time! 🎯
How many containers do you think were collected from the event?

Introducing Our New Young Change Maker – Amayah!

As many of you already know, Hudson’s journey with Containers for Change QLD has inspired so many, and now, we are incredibly proud to introduce a new Young Change Maker in the family – his younger sister, Amayah!

Amayah has always been right there beside Hudson helping with collections, cleaning bins, and playing a vital role in the day-to-day efforts. So it’s only fitting that she now gets the opportunity to tell her own story and make her own impact.

Today, Amayah proudly presented a $1000 cheque to Hummingbird House, a moment made possible thanks to the amazing support from our local community.

A huge thank you to:
- The Sandstone Point Marina (formerly Spinnaker Sound Marina) community, whose continued donations and support made this milestone possible.
- Jamie and the team from Containers for Change Bribie Island - Express Recycling for their consistent help in processing the donated items.
- Antoinette and the team at Just Signs & Print Caboolture for going above and beyond to create Amayah’s beautiful presentation cheque. Your generosity and effort did not go unnoticed.
- Lastly, Alice and Anne at Hummingbird House for your warm welcome, Amayah’s certificate of appreciation, and the special tour, it meant the world.

We couldn’t be prouder of Amayah and the amazing spirit she brings to making a difference. This is just the beginning!!

Time is ticking by faster than expected, and once again, we are headed to the Kilcoy Rodeo to lend a hand and raise some funds. Therefore, we are seeking volunteers to assist with our fundraising efforts. Are you available to volunteer your time on Saturday, 2nd August? Our designated shift in the canteen this year is from 2:30pm - 8:30pm. In exchange for your support, you will receive a complimentary day pass to the event, granting you access to the grounds at any time and enabling you to enjoy the entertainment until your shift commences. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are able to provide assistance in any capacity.

We extend our sincere gratitude in advance.
The Help Hudson Hear Crew.

It’s been a while since our last post, as we are all aware that life does not slow down. However, we would like to extend our gratitude to two remarkable groups that have supported Hudson’s journey: Firstly, Hudson was invited to attend a presentation in Caboolture by Tibrogargan Lodge No.305 - Qld Freemasonry. These individuals have been tirelessly fundraising at Bunnings on weekends, and have generously donated $500 towards Hudson’s journey. Secondly, Dave from Morayfield Freemasons - Lodge #95 UGLQ reached out after hearing of Hudson’s story at the previous presentation, and requested our attendance at a morning tea a few weeks back. This is where Hudson was presented with a cheque of $2000. We were absolutely blown away by their generosity. Little did we know, they had also invited the Sentinel along to take some pics which also resulted in a little write up in the newspaper.

On behalf of Hudson, thank you for your kindness and generosity.

That’s a wrap for 2024 with Containers for Change QLD. Can we better it for 2025? We will have to wait and see.

Today is the start of National Recycling week, and Hudson’s little sister Amayah, has taken the title of “Recycling Queen”. Over the last couple of months Amayah has taken ownership of what needs to be recycled and what needs to go to the bin within our household. With Amayah being only 5, and after only a couple of months, this has now become second nature. With this little bit of inspiration, there’s no reason why we can’t all follow suit.

Woohoo… this was the final 10 of Hudson’s 1 million containers..

A proud Aunty moment 🩵

Having worked with children with disabilities of many levels for many years myself, I never imagined our family having a child with a disability yourself let alone a nephew being born deaf and diagnosed with bilateral microtia atresia. We were in shock to say the least but the moment our Huddy was born he has been a pillar of strength and determination. He carries his disability with absolute pride and nothing has ever held him back.

This kid has never let his disability define his ability. I think there is always motivation in every aspect of your life. I have always thought limitations are only for those who think they can’t do it and actually, your ability doesn’t have any link with disability.

Concentrate on things your disability doesn’t prevent you from doing well and don’t regret the things it interferes with. Don’t be disabled in spirit as well as physically don’t take the perceptive of those people who constantly want you to feel you are disabled. When someone tells you it can’t be done it's more the reflection of their limitation, not yours.

Huddy you make us so proud every day and you have never let your disability define your ability. You give everything a go whether you succeed or not but something he absolutely loves at the moment is his soccer. Keep on keeping on mate. N***y loves you millions 🩵⚽️🥅

A massive thank-you to the Kilcoy Rodeo committee for having Help Hudson Hear take part in the annual rodeo. The Kilcoy Rodeo committee has become family to us.

Hudson, once again, was invited to collect the 10c recyclables during the event. For a 3000 strong crowd, it is unbelievable to think that Hudson was able to collect 18343 containers. We would like to take this opportunity to thank both lots of Grandparents, Mark from Express Recycling Bribie and of course Hudson and Amayah for their efforts with getting these containers into our bins. Secondly, Express Recycling for the loan of their truck and for providing the collection bins and of course, the task of counting every one of the above mentioned containers.

As you may or may not be aware, Hudson and the Kilcoy Hammers Softball Club Inc also shared the duties of the running of the canteen for the lunchtime rush. One could imagine, this takes an army of volunteers to carry out this shift, therefore, there are some very special people we need to mention….

This year, we once again did a 50/50 raffle with one lucky winner. Congratulations to Ella who scored herself $735.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This would not have been successful without the love and support from you all.

To finish off, a personal thanks goes to Robbie Christie. Yes, you do have an amazing committee, but you are the puppeteer.
