MOON / CAM BOOTS
Controlled ankle motion (CAM) or moon boots are an orthotic that we prescribe for physio patients and also fit for patients on referral from GPs and orthopaedic specialists.
The aim of wearing a moon boot is to unload the ankle and / or foot by restricting ankle dorsiflexion, in order to promote healing of bony or soft tissues like ligaments.
There are two types of boot: short and tall. Generally, a tall boot is used for ankle and rear foot injuries, as it is more capable of unloading these regions. A short boot is used for mid and forefoot injuries. Of course, there are exceptions depending on a patientβs circumstances.
Some moon boots also have an inflatable air chamber that hugs the shin and ankle for both greater comfort and potentially greater unloading.
We also stock moon boots for young children as well!
