I am truly encouraged by today's National Children's Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy launch. The Strategy proposes a fundamental cultural shift in the way we think about the mental health and wellbeing of children. This shift includes a change in language, adopting a less medicalised model of mental health and wellbeing.
Here are some of its priorities related to parent involvement:

• Routine offering of evidence-based parenting programs at key developmental milestones (action 1.1.c)
• Amend current Medicare items to promote collaborative care including:
• Enabling providers to claim for consultations with parents and carers (without the child present) as part of the child’s care (action 2.2.b)

If you’re going to assist your child to grow their resilience, the first step will be to increase your own resilience in tolerating your child’s upset without feeling compelled to rush in and smooth over everything for them. The grown-up parent, who really wants to be a loving resource to their child, is prepared to work on themselves and not make a project out of their child.

Mindfulness in relationships

Mindful parenting means that you bring your conscious attention to what’s happening, instead of getting hijacked by your emotions.

As the approach and are home from school and more under foot than ever, it's only natural for parents to focus on and become more concerned about their child’s . This is not something need to beat themselves up over. It's simply part of being human. That said, there may be better ways for parents to manage their regarding their child’s behavior. What is the child's behavior suggesting? Is the child's behavior reflective of the parent's behavior in some way? Although there are countless examples of this process, technology use is one we all can relate to. And I'm not suggesting that setting technology parameters for children is a bad thing, because I think doing that can be useful. However, I am curious what technology parameters parents set for themselves and the extent to which they can honor their personal limits.

Parent focussed not child focussed; parent discovery not instruction; provides ideas & principles not solutions- awesome using the parent data and Bowen’s Family Projection Process

3rd day of Parent Hope Project & Parent Confidence Project training today. Thinking about Bowen's philosophy in his original research for relating to parents/families:
"The philosophy on the project was based upon a regard for the family and its capacity to nurture human growth. Therapeutically a guiding principle was to respond to the families in a way that would promote growth." Dr M Bowen [Origins of Family Psychotherapy p 143]
