Language Disorder Australia (former Speech and Language Disorder Australia – SALDA) is Australia’s trusted network of professionals and services, committed to ensuring extraordinary outcomes — beyond what anyone imagined possible — for children and young people with Language Disorder. With over 40 years’ experience providing high-quality education, support, and advocacy for our clients and their f

amilies across the country, we are boldly spearheading a better future for all children and young people with Language Disorder, unafraid to do things differently in the pursuit of our vision. Our multidisciplinary and integrated network of educators and allied health professionals work with our partners, community and government to provide services that consider and address all aspects of life. Through our work at The Glenleighden School, across the education system and via our private allied health clinics, we deliver contemporary, integrated support underpinned by evidence-based research — placing our clients’ needs at the heart of everything we do. It’s these services which enable us to unlock new pathways that allow children and young people with Language Disorder to forge their own path for success — a path that is uniquely theirs, and which will see them connect and thrive in their communities and find their place in the world. We stand strong in our belief that all children have the right to access quality education and support which addresses their needs, because everyone — no matter our differences — deserves to belong. At Language Disorder Australia, we will keep working to build a world of greater understanding and connection, to allow children and young people with Language Disorder to unleash their full extraordinary potential.

Our teams across Language Disorder Australia recently came together for an inspiring internal staff conference, hosted at Mancel College.

Our days were packed with learning, team building, and collaboration as we explored key areas that shape our work with students, including:

- Explicit instruction
- Executive function challenges in students with Language Disorder
- Emotional regulation
- Understanding dyslexia (through insights from the 2025 Delphi consensus definition)
- Building inclusive classrooms through neuroaffirming strategies
- Assistive technology
…and more.

This conference reflects our ongoing commitment to lifelong learning, deepening our impact, and strengthening the way we support students by creating inclusive, language-friendly classrooms that meet diverse needs.

Because supporting students with Language Disorder takes a team that never stops learning.

Today, Language Disorder Australia attended the Endless Possibilities Conference 2025 at Victoria Park, joining fellow educators, allied health professionals, and advocates committed to inclusive education.

Our thanks to Dr Carly Lassig and the team at Down Syndrome & Intellectual Disability Queensland for bringing together such a meaningful event.

We greatly valued the insights shared by Kathy Cologon on supporting literacy through a strengths-based approach, and Rhonda Farragher’s strategies to build numeracy skills for learners with Down syndrome and intellectual disability.

Events like these are vital in building shared knowledge, strengthening collaboration, and ensuring that all learners, including those with Language Disorder, are supported to thrive.

Recently, the Language Disorder Australia team came together for one of our regular all-staff conferences - a rare and valuable opportunity to connect across Mancel College, School Support Services, Bright Door, Corporate Services, and members of our board.

We planned, shared ideas, celebrated our collective impact, and reconnected around our mission: to educate, support and advocate for children and young people with Language Disorder, so they can connect, belong and achieve.

It’s always a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together.

Recently, our School Support Services team had the pleasure of meeting with Amanda Heit from the Community Resource Centre (CRC) in Biloela, continuing our commitment to improving outcomes for students with Language Disorder across regional Queensland.

The meeting focused on collaborative strategies to support local schools, educators, and families through targeted resources, professional learning, and advocacy.

🎉 The Conference in Tarntanya, Adelaide wrapped up with inspiring sessions and powerful conversations.

Our Key Takeaways:
🍽️ Maggie Beer AO on the joy and impact of nutritious food for older Australians.
📚 Sarah Bartlett on rural Australians' views of Indigenous children’s books and their role in literacy.
🧠 Prof. Suze Leitão on the everyday challenges of parenting a child with DLD.
🏫 Dr. Hayley Tancredi on making classrooms more accessible for students with language and attention disorders.
🔍 A deep dive into whether GLP/NLA practices are truly neurodiversity-affirming.

There were far too many to list, but we were inspired by every conversation, presentation, and connection made. Thanks to all who visited the Language Disorder Australia booth as well – it was a pleasure reconnecting and sharing our mission!

Day 1 at the Conference in Tarntanya, Adelaide has been truly inspiring!

We began with a powerful Welcome to Country by Jack Buckskin, grounding us in the rich cultural heritage of the land.

A highlight of the morning was hearing from The Hon. Emily Bourke MLC, South Australia's Minister for Autism, Emergency Services & Correctional Services, and Recreation, Sport and Racing.

Did you know South Australia is the only state in Australia and possibly the only place in the world with a dedicated Minister for Autism? Such a significant step toward genuine inclusion and advocacy.

We then attended the keynote by Dr. Vishnu Nair: "Beyond Cultural and Linguistic Diversity: A Critical and Decolonial Vision for SLT." His insights challenged us to reflect deeply on our roles and practices, and inspired new thinking around inclusive and culturally responsive speech-language therapy.

Looking forward to connecting with attendees at our Language Disorder Australia exhibitor booth! Come say hello👋

Our SSS rural trips continued out west with visits to Charleville, Cunnamulla, and Quilpie, and what an incredible experience it was.

It’s clear that no matter the size of the town, the passion for inclusive education runs deep. Thank you to everyone who made us feel so welcome!

This week, we had the opportunity to connect with Mayor Shaun “Zoro” Radnedge of the Murweh Shire Council during our rural outreach to Charleville and surrounding communities.

We discussed how Language Disorder Australia can better support children and young people with Language Disorder and language difficulties in regional areas where access to services is often limited. A key focus was the importance of early identification and intervention, which can make a huge difference in helping children build strong communication, learning, and social-emotional skills.

When the right support is in place early, it helps prevent future challenges and keeps children engaged, connected, and included in their schools and communities.

We’re grateful to Mayor Radnedge for his warm welcome and clear dedication to improving outcomes for kids across the Murweh region. We look forward to continuing these important conversations and building partnerships that help every child reach their full potential, no matter where they live.
