Did you know that getting enough sleep can be helpful if you are feeling stressed ?

Aim for 7 - 9 hours sleep a night and optimise your sleep by having a consistent sleep-wake cycle.

Try having an early dinner and avoid sugar at night. It's best to exercise during the day as vigorous workouts at night can raise your heart rate and disrupt your sleep.

Be intentional with your sleep and create a healthy night routine 😴

When was the last time you stopped and considered your schedule?

The first step to preventing burnout is doing a stocktake of your schedule. It is important to be completely honest with yourself when doing this.

- Have you scheduled any down time?
- Does your family have any down time?
- Do you have time to prepare healthy meals?
- Have you prioritised time for movement and exercise?
- Have you scheduled time for a hobby or something that makes you smile?
- Have you scheduled some self care like chiropractic?
- Are you going to bed early and getting enough sleep?

Why not take some time out today to reevaluate your schedule and start putting some healthy boundaries into your life?

Have you heard of ‘text neck’ or ‘tech neck?’

Tech Neck/Text Neck is the informal term used to describe Tension Neck Syndrome (TNS), a cervical spine related musculoskeletal disorder (MSD), a stress injury to the neck caused by incorrect or overuse of mobile phones and other electronic devices including tablets and computers.

Looking down at your phone creates tension in the neck and shoulders and encourages misalignment. Failing to address forward head posture now could lead to bigger health problems in the long run such as muscle imbalances, spinal degeneration, decreased lung capacity and reduced mobility.

So lift your phone up to eye height to prevent 'tech neck'.

How’s your sitting position? When sitting, it is important to have your pelvis tilting forward so your body is more effortlessly upright. If your pelvis is tilting back, it will force you into poor posture, and you will find you are more likely to slump and the spine will collapse into a ‘C’ shape. Starting with a good sitting position will help avoid ‘tech neck’.

One easy way to achieve a proper sitting position is to use a seat wedge, which not only helps with posture but can also takes pressure off the lower back and provide significant systematic relief.

You can use them on a chair or in the car and you can stack them to increase the height and angle of the seat. They are available in two heights so you can ensure the perfect position for you.

Have you assessed your environment to prevent neck pain?

You may have seen the sit/stand desks, or the many different shaped ergonomic chairs, or the funny looking computer mouse. Whether you use all of them or none of them, it’s important to be intentional with how you use technology and the position of your computer or laptop.

Having your screen at eye height will ensure your neck is at a comfortable position and will prevent neck pain.

Incorrect, non-ergonomic posture and poor setup of computers at home, work or school can lead to Tension Neck Syndrome (TNS).
