Dr Lisa just spent a spectacular 3 days with an inspirational group of people. The retreat was all about Fun, Fellowship, Fluency and Food - and it delivered on all four goals. So much laughing! If you want the chance to refine your fluency in a gorgeous location with wonderful, supportive people, then mark the dates in your 2026 calendar: Thursday evening 30th July - midday Sunday 2nd August 2026. Hope to see you there!

Sometimes tricky behaviours can seem to pop out of nowhere. It may look like defiance, tantrums or meltdowns. There’s so much more going on beneath the surface. Because behaviour is just the tip of the iceberg. 🏔️

Every behaviour is actually a clue, a little piece of the puzzle! A need that’s being asked to be heard and supported.

When we meet the need behind the behaviour, that’s when progress and connection happens. 🪁

Dr Lisa is excited to be attending the Australian Speak Easy Association’s Mt Alford Retreat this weekend!

This amazing event gives adults who stutter the chance to work on fluency in a fun, supportive setting. Lisa will be there the whole time- a great chance to connect with her outside of the clinic!

Dan Siegel’s Hand Model of the Brain is a simple, visual way to help us understand what happens in our brains when we are calm, stressed or overwhelmed.

The visual is especially helpful for recognising and responding to children’s emotional states:

When we’re in a calm regulated state, our “lid” is on, our thinking and feeling parts are connected.

In a stressed or heightened state, our “lid” appears wobbly and we may feel our thinking and feeling parts of our brain start to disconnect.

Overwhelm makes our “lid” go off. The thinking and feeling parts of our brain are disconnected and our feeling brain is in charge.
