Last night we officially celebrated the grand opening of our new suites!

We were honoured to welcome friends, colleagues, and supporters as we marked the beginning of a new chapter for cancer care in the Darling Downs. Our vision has always been to create a compassionate, patient-centred clinic that brings together expert haematologists, oncologists, a dedicated palliative care team, and a nurse practitioner-led cancer survivorship program — all under one roof.

Our goal is simple: to ensure that patients facing blood and solid organ cancers receive the best care, close to home.

This milestone would not have been possible without our incredible team, whose dedication and expertise drive everything we do and, most importantly, our wonderful patients, who place their trust in us every day.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Here's to many more years of care, compassion, and community. đź’™

At Toowoomba Haematology and Oncology Clinic, we understand that caring for someone with a serious illness goes far beyond treating the disease itself. That’s where palliative care plays a vital role — supporting patients and families with comfort, dignity, and clarity through all stages of illness.

We are proud to have Dr Eva Harizaj, Palliative Care Physician, and Nurse Practitioner Olivia O'Dempsey as part of our team. Together, they provide expert, compassionate care for patients navigating complex medical journeys — whether they are receiving treatment, living with advanced cancer, or approaching end-of-life care.

Palliative care is not just for the final stages of life. It focuses on relieving symptoms such as pain, fatigue, nausea, anxiety, and breathlessness, while supporting emotional wellbeing, improving quality of life, and helping patients make informed decisions about their care.

Dr Eva and Olivia work closely with our team and their families to ensure care is not only clinically sound, but truly patient-centred. Their experience and empathy bring a sense of calm and confidence to patients during some of life’s most challenging moments.

Blood Cancers & the Vital Role of Haematologists

When it comes to diagnosing and treating blood cancers, there is no substitute for specialist care.

Haematologists are doctors trained in managing diseases of the blood and bone marrow — including serious and life-changing conditions like leukaemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. These cancers are complex, often requiring long term management and a coordinated, highly skilled approach.

At Toowoomba Haematology and Oncology Clinic, we are proud to have a team of three highly experienced haematologists:
Dr Joel Collins, Dr Marcus Dickey, and Dr Stephanie Wallwork.

Together, they bring decades of combined expertise, developed through years of practice in some of Australia’s largest and most respected hospitals.

From diagnosis, to advanced therapies, transfusion support, and long-term care — our haematologists provide thoughtful, evidence-based treatment with a patient-first approach.

In addition to their focus on blood cancers, our haematologists expertly diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of blood disorders, including iron deficiency, anaemia, clotting and bleeding conditions, and immune-related blood diseases — all requiring specialised knowledge and careful management.

Expert, compassionate haematology care — right here in Toowoomba.

What Is a Venesection — and Why Might You Need One?

At Toowoomba Haematology and Oncology Clinic, our expert team of haematologists offers venesection procedures right here in our Toowoomba clinic.

A venesection (also known as therapeutic phlebotomy) is a simple, safe procedure where a small amount of blood is removed to reduce iron levels or blood thickness.

It’s commonly used to manage conditions such as:
🔹 Haemochromatosis (iron overload)
🔹 Polycythaemia vera (increased red blood cell count)
🔹 Porphyria cutanea tarda (a rare skin condition)
🔹 Other iron or blood-related disorders

Performed under the care of our specialist haematologists, venesections at our clinic are part of a personalised management plan tailored to your condition and overall health.

âś… Local care, no hospital admission needed
âś… Experienced medical team
âś… Comfortable, professional setting

If you've been referred for a venesection — or suspect you may need one — we're here to help.

Iron deficiency in teenage girls is more common than many parents realise. As one of Australia’s largest providers of iron infusions, we see countless teens each year battling symptoms often mistaken for stress, school fatigue, or mood swings, including:

🔹 Constant tiredness
🔹 Difficulty concentrating
🔹 Frequent headaches
🔹 Low mood or poor memory
🔹 Struggling to keep up at school or in sport

Why are teenage girls more at risk?
🔸 Menstruation
🔸 Rapid growth during puberty
🔸 Dietary changes or restricted eating
🔸 High levels of physical activity

At our clinic, your daughter’s care is guided by a Consultant Haematologist (Blood Specialist) and delivered by a supportive, experienced team. Every iron infusion is part of a personalised treatment plan that looks beyond the symptoms — helping to uncover and address the root cause of iron deficiency.

School holidays are the perfect time to prioritise your daughter's health.

We provide:

âś… Short wait times
âś… Rapid turnaround
âś… Compassionate, expert care
âś… A focus on long-term health, not just a quick fix

Help your daughter start next term strong, energised, and mentally sharp.

If you’ve ever walked through our doors, chances are you’ve been greeted by the warm smile and kind heart of Chloe, our much-loved receptionist.

Chloe has been more than just a friendly face, she’s been a calm, caring presence for our patients, a huge support to our clinicians, and an important part of our team.

With three little ones keeping her busy at home, Chloe has made the decision to take a step back and spend more time with her beautiful family.

Chloe, thank you for everything you’ve brought to the clinic over the years—your compassion, laughter, and dedication will be missed. We hope this next chapter brings you joy, fun, and hopefully a bit more sleep too!
