Exciting to see cancer care continuing to evolve in our region. This adds to the strength of the coordinated, end-to-end cancer care pathway at St Andrew’s - one of the largest cancer care units in regional Australia.

Toowoomba deserves better access to breast care.

Introducing Darling Downs Diagnostic Breast Clinic, a new model designed for women with breast concerns who need answers quickly.

Too often, patients are left waiting, navigating multiple providers, and unsure what happens next.

We’ve changed that.

✔ Rapid access appointments
✔ No referral required
✔ One coordinated location for assessment, imaging, and next steps
✔ Direct pathway to subspecialist breast surgery at St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital

No unnecessary delays.
No fragmented care.
No uncertainty.

Just clear, timely, and coordinated care, from first concern through to diagnosis and treatment.

As part of this new service, we are seeking a Patient Care Coordinator to help deliver a more thoughtful, seamless patient experience.

We are pleased to welcome Dr Tasafin Hossain, Medical Oncologist, to Toowoomba Haematology and Oncology Clinic at St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital.

Dr Hossain obtained her medical degree from Bond University before completing Basic Physician Training at Gold Coast University Hospital. She subsequently undertook Advanced Training in Medical Oncology across a broad range of regional and metropolitan centres in Queensland, including Townsville University Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Mater Adult Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, The Prince Charles Hospital, and Cairns Base Hospital.

During her training, Dr Hossain pursued a research fellowship at Princess Alexandra Hospital, where she was involved in the Queensland Molecular Tumour Board and led the clinical implementation of a translational research study conducted by the team of Professor Ian Frazer at the Translational Research Institute.

Dr Hossain later practised as a Medical Oncologist at the Liz Plummer Cancer Care Centre, where she gained extensive experience managing a wide range of solid tumour malignancies in a regional cancer service. She subsequently returned to South East Queensland to undertake a Breast Cancer and Clinical Research Fellowship at Princess Alexandra Hospital, where she further developed expertise in the management of breast cancer and the care of patients enrolled in clinical trials, including early-phase (Phase I) studies.

Dr Hossain is committed to delivering compassionate, holistic and patient-centred cancer care, with a strong focus on empathy, clear communication and shared decision-making. She works closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure each patient receives personalised treatment and support throughout their cancer journey.
