Welcome Andrew Taylor!

We are so excited to let you know that Andrew is starting at Toowoomba Youth on Friday! He is an excellent Clinical Psychologist, and will he seeing patients, age 5-85, here on Tuesdays and Fridays.

I’ve known Andrew for years and having worked together in other services, am very happy that he is joining our Toowoomba Youth team.

Andrew has some capacity to take on a few new clients, and we would recommend that you get a Referral from your GP (or psychiatrist).

We specialise in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Psychiatry and Psychology.

Photo Competition!
Hello everyone.
I love my little practice for many reasons, one of them the effort put into our Fairy Garden. Carol loves tracking down fairies and gnomes, and spends hours repainting them. And adding to the plants, and just in short being amazing.

So I decided we would have a little show case. But im a dreadful photographer. So in comes the competition:

Take some pictures of the garden or practice. To ensure privaci we ask that you email it to admin@toowoombayouthmhs.com .au
We will then load it onto facebook.
The photo with the most likes on the 31 May 2025 - will win a $100 gift card
The rules:
1) No taking photos during the sessions and no people in the photos.

2) you are not allowed to move the garden decorations

3) if taking picture outside- no tramping on plants

4) Do not upload the pictures (as public can then see who took the pictures)

5) You don’t have to be a client of Toowoomba Youth but the photo has to be of the practice. Public is welcome to take pictures of the outside of the building and the garden. Please be respectful of our neighbours and clients.

6) Do not take photos after our business hours.

7) No staff or contractors of Toowoomba Youth are allowed to enter.

Concerta Shortage!
For those of you who don’t know, yet: there is a supply shortage of Concerta that is likely to last several months.

Our plan of action at the moment is:
1) Check your usual pharmacy, they may still have stock for your next prescription.
2) if you are on 54 mg - ask if they have or can get stock for 27mg, and let me know. You would need a prescription to get 2x27mg instead.
3) Any other doses - we can give the eqvalent dose in Ritalin LA. It has the same active ingredient ( methylphenidate) but differs in how it is released , and generally lasts about 8 hours , compared to Concerta lasting 10-12 hours. For adolescents and teenagers we can probably give an additional afterschool dose of short acting Ritalin , but it may interfere more with sleep and appetite.

You would need to ring the practice. If I’ve seen you in recently (less than 6 months) I can give you a prescription lasting till your next scheduled review.

4) Adults on Concerta , prescribed by the GP under authority , will have to be seen by their psychiatrist to be changed to another preparation. So please let us know asap. I’ll try to open a few “emergency slots” to accommodate everyone but please don’t leave it till the last day.

5) I unfortunately will have to charge the usual script fee, as I have to cover my time and additional admin costs, so please don’t make the lovely reception staff’s lives difficult by trying to get off the script fee.

🌿 Meet Audrey - our Provisional Psychologist 🌿

Audrey will be starting with Toowoomba Youth on February 6th 2025. Audrey is currently accepting new patients and has low wait times! She will be closely supervised by our clinical psychologist, Liza Deadman. Once Audrey completes her training, her patients will transition to Liza for ongoing care.

🌻 What is a Provisional Psychologist 🌻
A provisional psychologist is someone who is in the final stages of training to become a fully registered psychologist. They’ve already completed 5 years of university study, they are in their 6th year of training and are now working with clients under the close supervision of an experienced registered psychologist to build their skills.

🌺 What to Expect in Sessions 🌺
During sessions with a provisional psychologist, you can expect evidence-based support tailored to your needs. These sessions will be closely supervised by Liza, ensuring high standards of care.

Key Responsibilities:
• Welcome patients and families to the practice in a friendly, professional manner

Requirements:
• Current Blue Card (required)
• Previous experience with Best Practice software (preferred)

This is a casual position with flexible hours to support clinic operations as needed.
