A new Brisbane clinical trial is exploring a treatment that may help people living with type 1 diabetes protect their body’s own insulin production.

If successful, this could mean better blood sugar control and fewer complications for years to come.

You may be eligible if you:
✅ Are aged 18–55
✅ Have had type 1 diabetes diagnosed in the last 5 years
✅ Are using insulin

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members are strongly encouraged to take part.
The study is committed to delivering a culturally safe experience and aims to contribute meaningfully to better outcomes for Indigenous communities impacted by type 1 diabetes.

What’s involved?

- 5 visits over 5 weeks at Princess Alexandra Hospital (Brisbane)
- Free parking + café voucher provided
- Professional and caring research team

📍 Made in QLD: A Breakthrough in T1D Treatment

After 25 years of dedicated research, Queensland scientists have reached a major milestone in the fight against Type 1 diabetes. A promising new drug, ASITI-201, is now undergoing human trials—and it could change the future of diabetes treatment as we know it.

Unlike traditional therapies that manage the disease, ASITI-201 aims to retrain the immune system to stop attacking the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. The hope is that this will delay, reduce, or even eliminate the need for daily insulin injections altogether. This is not just about treatment: it's about potential prevention!

The clinical trial is currently recruiting participants diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes within the past five years. Early results are encouraging, and if the trial continues to show positive outcomes, this could mark the beginning of a new era in diabetes care for Aussies.
