Announcing the new owner of the Body Composition Scanner!

As most of you know from my previous email, I am no longer continuing to operate Target Nutrition & Fitness after the end of this financial year. My final trading day will be Saturday 25th June, with no further services to be offered after this date.

Fortunately, I've been able to find a passionate and qualified fitness professional to purchase the Body Composition Analysis Scanner who is local to Toowoomba, which means you will be able to continue to get regular scans moving forward. I have included Jess's introduction letter below, including her contact details for all future bookings. She will continue to offer scans to all existing Target Nutrition & Fitness clients for the same price of $39 per scan, and will also be looking to offer nutrition services in the future.

As Jess is only taking over the machine, and not the business itself, there will be NO handover of client information. All confidential paper-based client files will be held securely and confidentially for a period of 7 years, and then destroyed as per privacy guidelines. If you would like to obtain your client file prior to 30th June 2022, please contact me to arrange collection.

This means that you will need to bring a copy of your previous scan to your first appointment with Jess if you would like to do a comparison of your scans.

Access to Supplements via Vital.ly:

I will continue to maintain my registration with Vital.ly through until the end of 2022 so you will be able to continue to purchase prescribed supplements up until this time. After this, you will need to see a qualified Naturopath or Nutritionist for a new prescription to continue to purchase. Alternatively, some practitioner brands, such as Bioceuticals, can be found in your nearest chemist or health food store.

It's time to say Goodbye 😥

It is with sadness that I announce the permanent closure of Target Nutrition & Fitness at the end of this Financial Year (30th June 2022), with my final day of trading on Saturday 25th of June 2022.

As many of you know, due to the turbulent nature of running a small business throughout the Pandemic, combined with the Queensland Government mandates preventing me from continuing to operate face to face from my clinic space, at the end of last year I made the financial decision to take on full-time employment working from home.

Thankfully, I was also able to continue to service my existing clients in a reduced capacity on Saturdays from home and online. However, with full time employment and limited capacity to take on new clients, the business is financially no longer viable, and operating on Saturdays limits the quality time available to spend with my family outside my working hours.

On this basis, the decision has been made to cease trading at the end of this financial year. I will be looking to sell the Body Composition Machine to a local Toowoomba-based gym or nutrition provider and will advise all of my clients of its new location if you wish to be able to continue with this service.

Unused Pre-Paid Packages:

For all existing clients with unused prepaid services, I will continue to operate fortnightly on Saturdays up until and including Saturday 25th June 2022 to allow reasonable time to book in unused consultations or scans. For those with prepaid body composition scan packages, if you are unable to complete your full package prior to this date, please contact me to discuss a pro-rata refund on the unused portion.

I am sad that current circumstances mean I can no longer continue to operate my business in a face to face setting, but I'm looking forward to continued catch-ups via zoom. This is not really the end, just the beginning of something new! 🎅🎄🥰

With Christmas just over a week away, here are some tips to help you stay on track this festive season.

1. Always have a high protein meal and be well hydrated before attending any functions where there will be finger food and alcohol. If you fill yourself up on good quality protein before you go, you won’t feel hungry and are less likely to overeat. Similarly, being well hydrated with water will reduce the amount of alcohol you are tempted to drink, as we often drink more alcohol when feeling thirsty, especially on hot summer days!

2. Drink a glass of water (or sparkling water) between each alcoholic drink - this helps maintain hydration, as well as reduce overall alcohol consumption during the function.

3. If you’re asked to bring a plate, make sure it’s healthy! That way you will always have access to some healthy food, especially if everyone else is bringing rum balls, biscuits, Christmas cake and fruit mince pies! Great options include veggie sticks with dip, homemade protein balls, or a fresh fruit platter.

4. Don’t drop the ball when it comes to exercise! It can be easy over the festive season to get a bit lazy when it comes to regular exercise, especially if you have a busy social schedule, but now is a crucial time to maintain your exercise routine. That way you won’t undo all your hard work, and you’ll be less likely to move into January with any extra Christmas Kilos.

5. Enjoy Christmas Day and don’t sweat the small stuff. While it feels like the silly season starts in October these days, remember that enjoying some good food and drink with your family and friends on Christmas Day is absolutely fine. If you’ve managed to follow the first four points in the lead up to the 25th, then letting your hair down on Christmas Day shouldn’t be an issue, after all, it is only one day of the year! So enjoy your Christmas pudding, and just get straight back on track with your health goals the very next day, one day isn’t going to make or break your results.

*Important Update to Target Nutrition & Fitness*

There will be some important changes happening to Target Nutrition & Fitness commencing in 2022 due to the upcoming implementation of the QLD Government Public Health Order for Workers in a Healthcare Setting. At this point in time I don’t wish to participate in the Covid-19 experimental Vaccination Program as they are still under clinical trial and there is no long term safety data available to determine possible future health implications. Unfortunately this means I will be unable to continue to provide in-person face to face Nutrition services into 2022. On this basis, I will be permanently vacating my clinic room as at 23rd December 2021.

In order to continue to service my existing clients in 2022, I will offer online Telehealth consultations via Zoom only, and will hold one or two scanning days per month so clients can still get their scans done for ongoing progress monitoring. Scans will continue to be held at the current location. All clients who complete a fully paid (or pre-paid) online Nutrition Consultation during the month will be entitled to a Body Composition Scan at no additional cost. Scanning days will be advertised via email and Facebook so please keep an eye out in order to secure a spot on the day.

The new mandates do not affect personal training sessions at this time.

Due to the turbulent nature of the ongoing lockdowns and strict mandates in Queensland, operating a small business has been challenging over the past 2 years, to say the least! Therefore, I have made the difficult decision to seek more secure employment opportunities and have fortunately been offered a permanent position as a Nutrition Coach for an online health and wellbeing company based in Australia.

While this is fortunate for me, it does mean I will no longer be accepting new clients (for Nutrition or Personal Training) from 1st January 2022. As mentioned above, I will continue to service my existing clients via Telehealth appointments as required and all existing Personal Training sessions will continue as scheduled, with a possible slight adjustment of session times in the New Year if required (this will be discussed directly if applicable).

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank ALL of my clients for your ongoing support over the past 3 years. This is certainly NOT goodbye, however there will be some significant changes going forward as I take a small step back from my business to focus on new opportunities. I look forward to continuing to service my existing clients in a different way, and hope we can successfully navigate this adjustment period to ensure you continue to get the health support you have come to rely on from me in the past.

The benefits of intermittent fasting? (part four)

You'll experience increased energy and less fatigue.

It seems counter-intuitive, but regular fasting actually promotes higher levels of energy and lower levels of fatigue.

This phenomenon has been studied by many, but in short, it comes down to improved cell function and increased energy at a cellular (mitochondrial) level - back to the DNA thing again.

This is one of the benefits that definitely takes time and patience (and comes with regular practice). You certainly won't be bursting with energy the first few times you fast, but I can assure you it does come providing you fast regularly and stick to mostly whole nutritious foods the rest of the time.

Christmas Dessert

Coconut Yoghurt Parfait

Ingredients:

- 1 cup Unsweetened Coconut Yogurt (divided)
- 2 tbsps Walnuts (roughly chopped, divided)
- 1/2 cup Strawberries (chopped, divided)

Directions:

Place half the coconut yoghurt in a glass jar or bowl. Top with half the walnuts and half the strawberries. Add the remaining coconut yoghurt, walnuts and strawberries. Serve and enjoy!

Low Fat vs High Fat - Which Diet Really Works? (part four)

Ketogenic Diet:

The Pros:
- You'll never feel hungry (satisfaction guaranteed)

- No need to count calories, as long as your macro's are en pointe

- Once you're over the initial low carb brain fog, Ketogenic diet followers report higher levels of energy and mental clarity

- High success rate - when followed properly, followers of this diet usually achieve excellent fat loss results

The Cons:
- Potential for nutrient deficiencies - especially fibre and antioxidants

- Maybe contraindicated in some conditions (such as diabetes) if not managed carefully

- Keto breath - a rather unpleasant breath smell can occur when the body is fuelled on ketones

- Not suitable long term, and may result in regaining lost weight if not managed carefully

While both diets have their pros and cons, I think you can see where my thoughts lie on the subject!

But of course, the healthiest and most effective diet for you is the one that has been developed with your unique health goals and circumstances in mind.
